When technology illuminates traditional values

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Amid the wave of digital transformation spreading across the country, Thanh Hoa is no exception. Not only businesses or state agencies, functional agencies in the province have actively promoted the "Digital Family" movement - an initiative to realize the goal of "every citizen is a digital citizen, every family is a digital family".

The "Digital Family" movement is implemented on the basis of national policies on digital transformation, especially closely following the Government's Project No. 06 on developing population data, identification and electronic authentication to serve national digital transformation. Determined to make Thanh Hoa one of the leading localities in digital transformation, the province has issued many specific plans to build a digital society from the smallest foundation: Family. According to data from the Department of Science and Technology, by the end of the first quarter of 2025, more than 65% of households in the province used at least one online public service at level 3 or 4. This figure represents a significant step forward compared to the rate of only about 35% at the end of 2023. Not stopping there, the province also sets a goal that by the end of 2025, more than 80% of households will participate in digital platforms serving essential needs such as healthcare, education, electronic payments and social security.

The “Digital Family” movement has not only received strong direction from the government but also consensus from the people. In Hoang Hoa district - one of the leading localities in this movement, more than 90% of families use the VNeID application to declare health, register for vaccination and access timely administrative information.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung in Hoang Phu commune shared: "Previously, it was very troublesome to get any documents. Now, it only takes a few steps on the phone. Thanks to this application, my family can register for vaccinations on schedule and monitor the local health situation more closely, especially during the epidemic season."

The “Digital Family” movement is not only about each individual knowing how to use smart devices or access the internet, but more importantly, the whole family accompanying each other in the digital transformation journey. When family members get acquainted and apply technology to their daily lives, the value of digitalization does not stop at personal convenience, but also spreads strongly into community habits. From these “digital families”, Thanh Hoa gradually forms dynamic digital citizens.

Digital skills training courses for different target groups such as the elderly, rural women, or youth are regularly held in communes. According to statistics from the Provincial Women's Union, in 2024, more than 15,000 women participated in training sessions on non-cash payments and the use of online public services. These numbers prove that digital transformation is no longer a playground for young people or those working in the technology sector, but has become a widespread movement.

Not stopping at applying technology to serve daily essential needs, many families in Thanh Hoa are gradually turning the "Digital Family" movement into a launching pad for economic breakthroughs and expanding business opportunities.

The family of Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai in Tan Son Ward (Thanh Hoa City) is a living proof of this transformation. Previously, she was attached to a small stall at the ward market, with customers mainly from residential areas near her house. After participating in e-commerce training courses organized by the Department of Industry and Trade, she boldly opened an online stall on e-commerce platforms such as postmart and voso. This move not only helped her expand the market, but also completely changed her family's business mindset. From traditional retail, she learned how to package professionally, promote products via social networks, take care of online customers and take advantage of the platform's promotions to increase orders. As a result, her family's income has doubled, and the products are not only in the provincial market but also in other provinces. More importantly, her family is no longer limited by the market, the online stall can operate 24/7.

Despite many positive results, the “Digital Family” movement in Thanh Hoa still faces many challenges. One of the biggest difficulties today is that technology infrastructure in remote areas is still limited, internet speed is not stable and the cost of smart devices is still a burden for some low-income households. In addition, not everyone is willing to change traditional habits to a digital environment. Some people, especially the elderly, are still hesitant to operate on smartphones, worried about the safety of electronic transactions or personal privacy.

Recognizing the barriers in implementing the “Digital Family” movement, local authorities and mass organizations are making efforts every day with many practical and effective solutions. “Hands-on” programs and digital technology volunteer teams at the grassroots level have helped people access technology in a more familiar and understandable way. In particular, authorities are coordinating with network operators to deploy preferential packages specifically for households, as well as support smart devices for disadvantaged groups. This is a practical solution to ensure that no one is left behind on the digital transformation journey.
