First monkeypox case detected in Long An

On October 11, Ms. Huynh Thi Khanh Linh, Director of the Can Giuoc District Medical Center (Long An) said that a case of monkeypox infection had appeared in the district, this was the first case of infection in Long An.

The patient's health is currently stable, he is self-monitoring and isolating at home, has no fever, and the blisters on his hands have dried.

Previously, on October 6, the patient went to the Ho Chi Minh City Dermatology Hospital for examination with symptoms suspected of having monkeypox. The patient was assigned to take a sample from the Pasteur Institute in Ho Chi Minh City and the result was positive for monkeypox virus.

After that, Long An Provincial Center for Disease Control coordinated with Can Giuoc District Medical Center to verify, investigate, and carry out epidemic prevention measures.

Through epidemiological investigation and tracing, all close contacts are identified and instructed to self-monitor their health for 21 days from the last contact.

At the same time, the local health sector has instructed patients to isolate at home and immediately notify the medical staff in charge when new clinical symptoms are detected for advice and treatment.

In case a close contact has symptoms of headache, fever, chills, sore throat, discomfort, fatigue, rash and swollen lymph nodes, etc., it is necessary to limit contact with others and immediately notify the nearest medical facility for diagnosis, sample collection, treatment and timely isolation.
