Just walking every day can reduce the risk of atrial fibrillation and stroke

Research by scientists at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University in Taipei (Taiwan) has shown a correlation between physical fitness and a reduced risk of atrial fibrillation and stroke.

Atrial fibrillation - also known as atrial flutter - is an irregular heartbeat or arrhythmia. It can lead to other heart complications such as blood clots, stroke and heart failure. Notably, people with atrial fibrillation have a five-fold increased risk of stroke.

The study included 15,450 participants, all aged around 55, none of whom had atrial fibrillation. They were tested on treadmills between 2003 and 2012. The results of the study will be published on the Health website on September 1.

Can mosquitoes really bite through clothes?

Humans are very susceptible to mosquito bites. In many cases, despite wearing long pants and long sleeves, we still get itchy bites from mosquitoes. But there are other times when long clothes actually protect us from mosquitoes.

Mosquito bites are not only itchy and uncomfortable, but they also transmit parasites, viruses and many other dangerous diseases. Although anyone can be bitten by mosquitoes, some people are more likely to attract these insects than others.

Mosquitoes can bite through some thin and loose fabrics.

There are several reasons for this. One of the main reasons is that we exhale carbon dioxide. This gas attracts mosquitoes to fly close to living creatures and find blood to suck. This is especially true for pregnant women. They exhale more carbon dioxide than normal people.

In addition, other factors that contribute to attracting mosquitoes are body temperature, cholesterol, steroids and high levels of uric acid on the skin. We all know that one of the best ways to protect the skin from mosquito attacks is to wear long clothes to cover the skin. However, it turns out that some fabrics cannot keep mosquitoes away.
