On November 7, France and Israel were involved in a diplomatic incident, when the Middle Eastern country detained two employees with diplomatic visas from Paris.

According to AFP news agency, Paris said the two employees worked at the French Consulate General in Jerusalem.
They were deployed to the Eleona complex in the Pater Noster church, located on the Mount of Olives in eastern Jerusalem, to provide security for French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot, who was visiting the historic site.
However, the two officers had an argument with Israeli security forces and were later arrested by Israel. Foreign Minister Barrot canceled his visit to the Pater Noster Church in protest against Israel's move. At the same time, Mr. Barrot said he would summon the Israeli ambassador in Paris to protest.
Mr Barrot has criticised the Israeli police's detention of the two officers as "unacceptable" and has intervened to secure their release.
On November 7, the Israeli Foreign Ministry issued a statement denying any fault in the diplomatic incident, asserting that the security protocol for the visit had been "clarified" in advance, that is, Foreign Minister Barrot's visit to the church would be secured by the Middle Eastern country.
"Every foreign minister on an official visit to Israel is accompanied by security forces on behalf of the state and the security forces will closely monitor all activities of the minister throughout the visit," the ministry said.
The incident at the church occurred as Foreign Minister Barrot was in Israel to discuss potential ceasefire deals between the Middle Eastern country and the Islamist movements Hamas and Hezbollah in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.
