At the same time, the US administration after Mr. Trump was elected also warned Russia that refusing to negotiate with Ukraine could lead to Washington increasing its support for Kyiv, according to Reuters on June 25, citing retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg, one of Mr. Trump's two former national security advisors, in an interview.

Under the Ukraine peace plan of General Kellogg and Fred Fleitz, both of whom served as chief of staff of the National Security Council during President Trump's term (2017-2021), the two sides would enforce a ceasefire on all fronts while negotiations took place.

What did the US say when Russia accused Ukraine of firing ATACMS missiles into Crimea?

They presented the plan to Mr Trump and received a positive response from the former US President. "I'm not saying he agreed or rejected every single word of the plan, but we were pleased with the response (from Mr Trump)," General Kellogg said.

However, Trump spokesman Steven Cheung said only statements made by Trump or by authorized members of the campaign were counted.

The Kellogg-Fleitz strategy is considered the most detailed plan related to the Republican presidential candidate this election season. Previously, former President Trump declared many times that he would quickly resolve the Ukraine-Russia conflict within 24 hours if he was elected the next US president. He has not revealed the details of that plan.

According to observers, the above proposal could mark a major shift in the US's view on the conflict, and lead to opposition from America's European allies and within the US Republican Party.

The Kremlin has said any peace plan proposed by a future Trump administration would have to address the status quo in Ukraine, but Russian President Vladimir Putin remains open to the possibility of dialogue.
