According to The Washington Post , the call took place on November 7, two days after the US presidential election. According to sources of the US newspaper, in the call from the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Mr. Trump urged Mr. Putin not to escalate the conflict, while also reminding the Russian leader of the large US military presence in Europe.
Mr. Putin and Mr. Trump exchanged on the sidelines of the 2017 APEC conference in Da Nang.

During the campaign, Mr. Trump vowed to end the conflict in Ukraine quickly but did not clarify his plans.
