(Dan Tri) - Scarlet Nguyen has worked very hard, surpassing hundreds of thousands of competitors to be able to intern at large corporations around the world such as: Google, LinkedIn, Slack, Dropbox...
The motivation to try is because of being bullied Scarlet Nguyen (Vietnamese name: Nguyen Khiet Anh) was born in 2001, living and working in Canada. Currently, she is a third-year student at the University of British Columbia (Canada). Since high school, Scarlet has participated in many career orientation days to find her own direction. After researching 80-90 different careers over the course of a year, she decided to pursue IT.

Scarlet shared: "When talking to students, I see that many people do not have a specific direction for the future. For me, it is a bit of a waste because I have studied for 4-5 years without knowing what I need. Therefore, I spent the whole year of grade 10 learning about careers. I participated in career fairs to meet many people in many different fields." Another reason why Scarlet actively learns about careers is because of the attitude of her friends at school. The young girl confided: "When I was in high school, I was isolated by my friends. At that time, my family and I had just moved to Canada, so my English was not good. I spoke poorly and my pronunciation was mixed with Vietnamese. Therefore, my classmates did not like me and often bullied me. They did a lot of things... I often had to eat lunch alone, had papers thrown at me in class, had water splashed on me when I went to the bathroom, and had my gym uniform hidden. I was still sensitive at that age, so I thought a lot and had a psychological crisis for a long time." However, the story of "being bullied" helped Scarlet realize many things. Being bullied by her friends helped her become stronger and ignore the bad things in life. In addition, this was also the motivation for Scarlet to try harder to study and find internship opportunities at large companies. The young girl said that because she could not integrate into school, she wanted to find internship opportunities even more to explore new environments and the outside world. Despite being bullied, Scarlet does not regret moving to Canada because her parents tried very hard to give her the best education. Scarlet said: "Although not rich, my parents still moved the whole family to Canada so that my two brothers could study abroad without having to be international students . I really admire my mother for that decision, she is a strong woman." Self -studying 8 hours a day, participating in 37 programming competitions to "conquer" the IT profession Scarlet fell in love with the IT industry during a career consultation. She met a representative from Hootsuite and was suggested to send her internship application to this company. However, Scarlet was rejected on her first application. "I was recommended the Hootsuite high school internship program and applied. Normally, this program accepts 12th graders and boys. At that time, I was only in 10th grade, a girl with little experience, so I was rejected. I felt quite disappointed."

That failure became the motivation for the young girl to be determined to "conquer" this position in the following year. After school, Scarlet read university textbooks and consulted online documents from 3 pm to 11 pm. At the same time, she also participated in 37 programming competitions to practice her skills. With her tireless efforts, Scarlet was accepted as a software development intern at Hootsuite, and was also the youngest female intern at this company. In her first year of university, Scarlet surpassed more than 100,000 competitors to become an intern at Google. In the following years, she also participated in 10 internships at large corporations in the US and Canada such as: LinkedIn, Dropbox, Slack... In the future, Scarlet expressed her desire to go far in the IT industry and have the opportunity to connect with more people. She said: "I am a person who likes to communicate, so I want to learn more new things and meet more people. With programming, I will try my best to go far and achieve a high position in the profession in the future." Scarlet offers a "formula" for young people who are uncertain and do not have a specific direction: "You should balance 3 factors: what society needs (the decisive factor for future job opportunities), what you want and your own strengths. When you find the intersection of these three factors and develop them, I think you will be successful in the field you have chosen."
Finding the intersection between what you want, what you are good at, and society's needs is Scarlet Nguyen's advice to young people (Photo: NVCC).
To discover one's strengths, Scarlet advises young people to experience a lot. She shared: "We can find our passion based on our "toughness" in that field. Realizing our passion is when we easily absorb knowledge of that profession. For me, we must have a little talent, must feel happy when learning about that field to be passionate about it. When we encounter difficulties, we do not want to give up but want to conquer more. When we meet people who are better in the profession, we do not feel inferior but want to be like them. That is when we find our own passion."
