Nguyen Thi Thanh Nguyen is one of 20 students who have just received the 2024 Vietnam Female Science and Technology Student Award.

Machine parts is an important specialized subject in the field of Mechanical Engineering. With her love for science, Nguyen Thi Thanh Nguyen (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Technology, Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City) has researched how to solve the general problem of choosing the right bolt between the gearbox and the machine frame, helping herself and other students have the opportunity to delve deeper into the theoretical basis of bolt calculations, serving the mechanical design calculations later.

"Design calculation and selection of bolted joints between the gearbox and the machine frame" is one of the typical scientific topics in Thanh Nguyen's research as a team leader and other members.

When researching how to solve the general problem of choosing the right bolt between the gearbox and the machine frame for his studies, Thanh Nguyen had the opportunity to delve deeper into the theoretical basis of bolt calculation, which is a very important chapter and also the most difficult chapter in the subject of Machine Parts - an important specialized subject in the field of Mechanics. Thanks to that, Nguyen has a deeper understanding of how to calculate bolts in practical problems and is the one who solved this problem.

In addition, Thanh Nguyen and his team members created a program to calculate the appropriate bolt selection by simply entering specific parameters, saving a lot of time in looking up tables and re-checking the bolt strength in actual machines.

"I have applied this program to my major project and graduation thesis, thereby saving a lot of time and effort in the two following projects," Thanh Nguyen shared.

One reason why people admire Nguyen's will is because she participated in a series of math and science and technology competitions with the mindset of learning to apply to life. Thanh Nguyen shared, "When I first started, I didn't think much about the achievements I would achieve in the future because for me, the important thing is to learn to do. I also didn't dare to put too much emphasis on achieving certain achievements because I was afraid that I would be pressured. However, I set a goal of having a scholarship to encourage studying each semester because I hoped to reduce the economic burden on my parents. Perhaps that's why I was able to conquer the national mechanical Olympiads."

Thanh Nguyen won Second Prize in the National Mechanics Olympiad for Machine Parts 2022; Third Prize in the National Mechanics Olympiad for Machine Parts 2023; Third Prize in the National Mechanics Olympiad for Machine Principles 2024...

This female student also advised female students studying engineering to boldly pursue this path. "Girls, don't be discouraged by difficulties. Instead, you should see difficulties in studying as something you must go through. Not only in engineering, but any profession has its own difficulties. No field is all rosy. Whatever skills need to be trained for a long time, you should practice diligently every day. Gradually, these skills will become familiar to you. Any difficulty will pass!", Thanh Nguyen shared.

Thanh Nguyen hopes to work in the field of mechanical research in the future to apply his own scientific topics to manufacturing machines to contribute to the development of science, engineering and technology of the country.
