A place to live…

As the main breadwinner in the family, the sudden appearance of goiter has dragged down the health of Mr. Nguyen Luc (68 years old, Phu Gia 2 village, Ninh Phuoc commune) and gradually lost his ability to work. Mrs. Tran Thi Tho, Mr. Luc's wife, said that because her husband had some underlying diseases, surgery could not be performed, causing the goiter to swell more and more around the neck and appear on the head.

“Before, he was very healthy, he did whatever people asked him to do, so although life was not rich, it was not too bad. Since he got sick, his health has declined significantly, and now he can no longer do anything. I am the only one who takes care of all the big and small things in the house and in the fields…” - Mrs. Tho shared.

Mr. Loc and his wife have 3 children, but they all live far away. Life is difficult, so they cannot help their parents. His family is in the locality where temporary housing is being demolished. Due to difficult circumstances, they have had to live in a dilapidated wooden house for a long time.

Encouraged by the government and the Fatherland Front, Mrs. Tho and her husband boldly received support (50 million VND) from the District Fund for the Poor to rebuild a more solid house. Up to now, after 1 month of construction, the brick wall has been completed and the roof is ready for tiling.

“With my family’s circumstances, to build a house we have to borrow more money, so we have been putting it off for a long time. If it weren’t for the support from the Front as a motivation, I don’t know when I would have dared to build a house. I am grateful for the care and support from Nong Son district so that my husband and I will soon have a new house; less worries and insecurity about the rain and wind!” - Mrs. Tho confided.

There will be no more temporary homes.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ninh Phuoc commune said that the family of Ms. Tran Thi Tho and Mr. Nguyen Luc is one of 8 households subject to temporary house demolition in the commune in 2023. The circumstances of the families subject to temporary house demolition are very difficult, so in addition to the support of 50 million VND/house from the District Fund for the Poor Mobilization Committee, the commune has mobilized sectors and organizations to send forces to help with labor days to dismantle and transport materials...

Previously, the Commune Front also completed the relevant procedures for the families to advance 50% of the funds to purchase materials and related expenses. After the house was completed, the locality organized the acceptance and handed over the remaining amount to the family.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy - Vice Chairwoman of Nong Son District People's Committee said that Nong Son District Party Committee directed the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, socio-political organizations and the entire political system to set the policy of eliminating temporary houses for poor households and disadvantaged households as an important political task.

To implement this policy, the District Party Committee has consistently implemented the motto "Households do it themselves, the State, the Fatherland Front and other organizations support, and the community helps". Strive to complete the elimination of temporary and substandard houses in the district by the end of 2023.

To achieve the goal of eliminating more than 40 temporary houses in the area, since the beginning of 2023, the district leaders have implemented many solutions to mobilize social resources to participate. In particular, taking advantage of events, activities, foreign channels... to call on organizations, businesses, philanthropists, especially those who are far from home to support resources.

For example, at a business meeting and investment promotion in Ho Chi Minh City at the end of March, the district called on businesses to support the construction of 31 houses for disadvantaged people in the district, with a support budget of 50 million VND/house.

Over the past 15 years, the district has mobilized social resources to support the construction and repair of more than 600 houses, improving housing for people in difficult circumstances...

Ms. Thuy said, in the context of many difficulties for people, to effectively implement the temporary housing elimination program, in addition to support from philanthropists and businesses, Nong Son district calls on the community, the Fatherland Front, and local organizations to join hands with people in difficult circumstances to build houses that ensure a hard foundation, hard frame - walls, and hard roof.

“There are cases where district leaders come to meet and persuade businesses to “ask for houses for the people”. At those meetings, we share the images, thoughts and aspirations of people in difficult circumstances, from which they sympathize and join hands to implement this humane program” - Ms. Thuy shared.
