This year, the An Lac Flower Cooperative in Dong Giang Ward has grown 50,000 flower pots, of which 20,000 flower pots of various types have been sold to the market. The remaining 30,000 flower pots serve the provincial Tet market with flowers such as: large chrysanthemums, raspberry chrysanthemums, gerberas, dahlias, firecrackers, primroses, and primroses... These flowers are being cared for to be brought to the market from around December 15 of the lunar calendar.
This year, the weather is quite favorable, so the flowers grow well. In addition to the large potted chrysanthemums, which are the main flowers of An Lac flower village, the raspberry chrysanthemum is also a flower variety that is being widely grown and is prioritized by flower growers. Currently, the Tet flowers in Dong Giang ward are growing well, and flower growers are focusing on fixing the flower plants with bamboo sticks to prepare for the cutting and pruning stages.
Mr. Trinh Duc Quang in Ward 1 said that to serve the Tet holiday this year, his family is planting about 4,000 pots of flowers of all kinds. Of these, there are 400 pots of large chrysanthemums, the rest are short-term flowers, and other hanging flowers. The weather in Quang Tri has been more favorable than in previous years, so the flowers have grown well. Currently, Mr. Quang's family is focusing on pruning buds and cutting branches so that the flowers will bloom in time for Tet, promptly serving the people.
“This is the final stage in the flower growth cycle, which determines the quality of the flowers, so we take very good care of them and avoid making any mistakes. The weather is currently favorable, the plants are growing well and healthy, so we believe they will produce a beautiful, fresh crop of flowers. We also hope this year will be a successful flower season so we can have a fulfilling Tet,” said Mr. Quang.
Mr. Le Dien Kim in Ward 1 is also a resident who has been involved in the traditional flower growing profession in the locality for decades. While meticulously placing bamboo sticks to fix each large chrysanthemum, Mr. Kim informed that this year his family planted about 2,500 pots of various flowers, of which 400 are traditional chrysanthemums, the rest are hanging flowers for Tet. Currently, the weather is cold and rainy, like many other households, Mr. Kim has proactively taken measures to keep the flower garden warm by using a system of light bulbs, covering the base of the plants with straw, and covering the garden with film and canvas.
Mr. Kim said that after deducting expenses, his family earned about 70 million VND from the previous Tet flower crops. “In recent years, the city and the ward have paid attention to supporting flower varieties and training flower growers. Thanks to that, the farmers have more favorable conditions to maintain and develop the flower growing profession. We hope that this year's Tet flower crop will be better and bring in better income,” Mr. Kim shared.
Dong Giang Ward is a locality with a long tradition of growing flowers and is the largest supplier of fresh flowers in Quang Tri province, with a consumption market not only in the province but also in many neighboring provinces. In particular, the flower growing profession of An Lac village has now become the main profession for people to develop the economy. As the urbanization rate is increasing, the flower village has created jobs for many local workers when there are no more fields. At the same time, many other professions have developed together such as: supplying materials, fertilizers, paint, pot casting, transportation...
In addition, income from the profession has also contributed to helping many households become well-off. In the current urbanization process, creating a land fund to preserve the flower growing profession will create green space associated with the sustainable development of Dong Ha City. In recent years, the city has invested in infrastructure to serve the production of potted chrysanthemums and some other types of flowers. Along with increasingly complete infrastructure investment, combined with experience and solid techniques, it has helped flower growers in An Lac village in particular and Dong Giang ward in general bring successful Tet flower seasons.
The 2025 Spring Flower Fair will soon move from Fidel Park to an empty lot adjacent to Hoang Dieu Street. This location is on the North bank of Hieu River, within the administrative boundaries of Dong Thanh and Dong Giang wards, with an area of about 11,025 m2. Flower growers in Dong Giang ward as well as An Lac village are extremely happy and excited when the spring flower fair is moved.
Head of the An Lac Flower Cooperative, Hoang Huu Khiem, informed that the location of the 2025 Spring Flower Festival is adjacent to Hoang Dieu Street and close to National Highway 1 with a road surface of up to 25 m wide, making it very convenient for transporting flowers and ornamental plants to display. In addition, vehicles do not have to enter prohibited roads, so loading and unloading flowers and ornamental plants is also more convenient for business people. This is also a street that is maintained for daily environmental sanitation, so the roadway and sidewalks are always clean.
Mr. Khiem said: “Moving the spring flower festival to this new location with reasonable booth rental prices has made flower growers very excited and motivated to maintain and develop their profession. Not only that, Tet flowers will be better consumed in neighboring areas such as Cam Lo and Gio Linh.”
Mr. Khiem added that the spring flower fair moving to a location adjacent to Hoang Dieu Street and close to National Highway 1 will create a beautiful landscape and highlight along the Hieu River for people to come and have fun. In the long term, flower growers in Dong Giang Ward in general and An Lac Flower Village in particular will focus on investing in building a traditional flower village brand with unique cultural features along the Hieu River to contribute to promoting agricultural development in the suburban area and attracting tourists and developing tourism.
