Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival

Ba Chua Xu Temple in Sam Mountain, Chau Doc is one of the largest temples in An Giang. Every year, Ba Chua Xu Temple Festival attracts millions of visitors from all over the country to come here to burn incense and worship. The festival usually lasts for 4 days, from April 22 to April 27 of the lunar calendar every year.

The festival of Lady Chua Xu Nui Sam is one of the biggest festivals of the land of Seven Mountains, the atmosphere is extremely jubilant and bustling.

Within the framework of the festival, visitors will be immersed in a unique cultural space, watching impressive art performances such as palanquin processions, lion dances, and unique folk games.

Ceremony to honor Thoai Ngoc Hau

Next on the list of An Giang Festivals is the Thoai Ngoc Hau Festival. This is a traditional festival of the Kinh community, held at Thoai Ngoc Hau Temple in Thoai Son. The festival is held annually, lasting for 3 days from April 9 to April 11 of the lunar calendar.

This festival is to commemorate Mr. Thoai Ngoc Hau and other famous mandarins who dug the Vinh Te canal, helping to bring water to the fields and gardens for people to cultivate and make a living.

The first ritual in the Thoai Ngoc Hau Honoring Ceremony is to carry the memorial stele around the temple. After completing the stele carrying ceremony, the representative will read the decree to invite the god Thoai Ngoc Hau to return so that people can offer incense and worship.

An Giang Dolta Festival and Bay Nui Bull Racing Festival

A special festival that visitors should not miss when having the opportunity to visit An Giang is the Dolta festival and the Bay Nui bull racing festival. The Dolta festival is a traditional ancestor worship ceremony of the Khmer people in An Giang, similar to the Vu Lan festival of the Kinh people. The Dolta festival is usually held in September, with no fixed date, depending on the year, it will be decided by the village elders and announced to everyone.

Also within the framework of this special festival, monks at Ro Pagoda in An Giang will join local people in planting rice. This custom is carried out as a way to maintain the rice farming profession.

Chol Chnam Thmay Festival

Chol Chnam Thmay is also a Khmer festival in An Giang, held to celebrate the New Year. According to the Khmer calendar, this festival will take place from April 14 to April 16. During the three days of the festival, Khmer people will perform traditional rituals together to welcome the new year.

During the Chol Chnam Thmay festival, you will see Khmer people wearing colorful traditional costumes. They will bathe together in scented water to wash away all the bad luck of the old year.

The main festival will take place on the morning of the first day of Tet according to the Khmer calendar. People dress up beautifully to go to the pagoda to pray for blessings for the new year. On the second and third days of Tet, each family will worship at home or organize meals according to their clan and village.

Chau Phu communal house festival

Chau Phu Communal House Festival is held from the 9th to the 11th of the 5th lunar month every year at Chau Phu Communal House, Chau Phu A Ward, Chau Doc Town, An Giang. This is the place to worship Thanh Hoang Nguyen Huu Canh, who has contributed to reclaiming the land of An Giang today. The festival also has the meaning of praying for favorable weather, bountiful crops, national peace and prosperity, and prosperity for every family.

Chau Phu communal house festival is held with traditional rituals such as palanquin procession, reading to invite Thanh Hoang, Tuc Yet ceremony, Xay Chau ceremony, and finally Noi Sac ceremony.
