In the 2024-2025 school year, teacher Nguyen Thi Mo - born in 1990, teacher at Ha Lam Primary School, Ha Long City - wrote a volunteer application to transfer to Ky Thuong Primary and Secondary School to teach.
Ky Thuong is the most remote commune of Ha Long City, sparsely populated, mainly inhabited by Dao ethnic people. The distance from her house to school is nearly 60 km.
On August 5, teacher Mo came to school to receive her new assignment and was assigned to be the homeroom teacher of class 2 with 8 students at the main school in Khe Che village.
These days, teacher Mo and other teachers are cleaning the school and planting trees to prepare for the opening day.
Ms. Mo said: “Rotating to remote areas is a teacher’s duty. Many older teachers still volunteer, and for young teachers like us, it is not difficult, but the biggest problem is that my children are still young and far from home. To focus on my work, I bring my young child along so that he can study at school. I want to contribute to creating the best learning environment for this place with my colleagues.”
“To ensure uniformity in level, at first I will tutor students with weaker academic performance. I want to build my classroom into a smart classroom so that students can access information technology and a digital teaching environment. I am purchasing some equipment such as a test scanner, a microphone, and digital lectures to connect to a projector in the classroom. My biggest wish is for students to be able to read and write Vietnamese fluently during my term,” Ms. Mo added.
Ms. Dang Thi Huong Sen, born in 1987, a teacher at Thong Nhat Kindergarten, volunteered to transfer to Ky Thuong Kindergarten, more than 40km from her home.
Ms. Huong shared: “From August 6, I went to school to take up a new job. The school assigned me to a combined class of 3 + 4 year olds with 10 children. I go to school by motorbike, I leave early on Mondays and go home after school on Fridays.
When I came here to work, I received a monthly allowance of 3 million VND, and was given the opportunity to stay at a teacher's guesthouse with full facilities. At first, I was not familiar with the steep and winding terrain here, so many teachers made plans to go together for safety.
In the 2024-2025 school year, schools in the obligatory areas of Ha Long City have 133 teachers and staff with enough time to complete their obligatory work and are eligible to be transferred to favorable areas, but 64 teachers and staff have volunteered to stay and work in difficult areas and an additional 65 teachers have volunteered to work in highland areas this school year.
A new school year is about to begin. Teachers, although sometimes tired and uncertain, are still persistent and dedicated to their profession, which is the pride of the profession.
Love for the profession will help teachers firmly steer the boat of knowledge to reach shore.
