High-level visits strengthen Vietnam-China relations

During the 15 years of establishing the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, leaders of Vietnam and China have made many high-level visits, contributing to strengthening bilateral relations.

Vietnam and China agreed to upgrade their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership under the motto of "friendly neighbors, comprehensive cooperation, long-term stability, looking toward the future" and the spirit of "good neighbors, good friends, good comrades, good partners" during General Secretary Nong Duc Manh's visit to Beijing from May 30 to June 2, 2008.

On December 31, 2008, the two countries issued a Joint Statement on the completion of the demarcation and marker planting work on the Vietnam-China land border.

In October 2011, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong held talks with Chinese President Hu Jintao in Beijing. During this visit, the two sides issued a Joint Statement and an Agreement on Guiding Principles for Resolving Maritime Issues.

In June 2013, President Truong Tan Sang made his first state visit to China. This was also the first state visit by a senior Vietnamese leader after Xi Jinping was elected General Secretary and President of China.

During the visit, the two sides agreed to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation in all areas of economics, trade, culture, sports, tourism, education, health, science and technology. President Truong Tan Sang hopes that China will increase investment in major projects in the fields of infrastructure construction, manufacturing, and supporting industries with modern and advanced technology.

During the talks between Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and his Chinese counterpart, the two sides agreed to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), enhance trust, promote cooperation, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the East Sea, in accordance with the spirit and principles of the DOC, on the basis of consensus, and strive towards the adoption of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC).

President Xi Jinping affirmed that China supports Vietnam in successfully organizing the APEC Summit in 2017, hoping that the two sides will continue to maintain cooperation and coordination within the APEC mechanism.

In April 2015, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong visited China and held talks with Xi Jinping. 2015 marked the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China.

During the talks, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Chinese President Xi Jinping said that despite the ups and downs of bilateral relations, friendly cooperation and positive development remain the main trend.

In September 2015, President Truong Tan Sang visited China and invited Mr. Tap to visit Vietnam.

In early November 2015, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Truong Tan Sang. The Chinese leader said that his country highly values ​​the friendship between the two countries.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid an official visit to China from September 10 to 15, 2016, at the invitation of his counterpart Li Keqiang. This was the first official visit to China by a senior leader of the Party, State and Government of Vietnam after the 12th National Party Congress.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc also attended the 13th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and the 13th China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS) in Nanning city, Guangxi province.

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation visited China in January 2017.

During the visit, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in Vietnam with projects applying advanced, environmentally friendly technology, prioritizing the fields of agriculture, high technology, machinery manufacturing, supporting industries, renewable energy development, clean energy; combining investment with technology transfer, developing high-quality human resources in accordance with Vietnam's needs and development strategy .

Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Vietnam on November 12-13, 2017. This was Mr. Xi's first foreign visit after the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and his second visit to Vietnam as General Secretary and President of China.

The two sides issued a Joint Statement, emphasizing that they will always view and develop Vietnam-China relations from a strategic height and long-term vision, and steadfastly implement a policy of friendship towards each other.

After China opened up after the Covid-19 pandemic, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Vietnamese delegation paid an official visit to China from October 30 to November 1, 2022.

Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted a welcoming ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on October 31, with a 21-gun salute.

Mr. Tap awarded the Friendship Medal to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, affirming that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a "good and sincere friend" of China, "the one who guides and promotes the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between China and Vietnam in the new era".

On June 25, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh arrived in Beijing, beginning his first official visit to China, in the context of the two countries celebrating the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

During a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the Party Central Committee Headquarters on December 1, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong suggested that the two sides comprehensively promote relations in all fields, focusing on increasing high-level exchanges and contacts to create strategic orientations for bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping and his wife will visit Vietnam from December 12 to 13 at the invitation of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife, and President Vo Van Thuong and his wife. This will be Xi Jinping's third visit to Vietnam as General Secretary and President of China.
