Four "major cases" on economic and corruption crimes brought to trial in 2024 as planned have shown the determination of law enforcement agencies.

In early 2024, the public was particularly interested in the "huge" cases related to economic crimes and corruption that will be tried this year. These are 4 cases that occurred at Van Thinh Phat Group, SCB Bank and related units and organizations; the case of Tan Hoang Minh Group; the case of former FLC Group Chairman Trinh Van Quyet and the case related to Viet A Company.

These are cases whose acts and the level of crime have really caused public opinion to ache. In addition, these cases are characterized not only by the particularly serious nature of the crimes committed by the defendants but also by the law enforcement agencies prosecuting them, and the amount of damage caused to the State and the community, which is among the largest ever...

These are also cases in which the criminals committed crimes in an organized manner, closely connected with people in positions of authority within state agencies, the crimes lasted for many years, the tricks were particularly sophisticated and blatant, and involved a significant number of corrupt officials, including leaders of a number of ministries and branches.

With a resolute attitude of "no forbidden zones, no exceptions", the trial work has been ensured according to the given plan, the litigation process is strict and in accordance with the law, creating a very high deterrent effect, contributing significantly to warning as well as creating high consensus and trust of public opinion in the fight against corruption, negativity and waste.

In particular, the determination and high concentration in the trial of these four major cases has strongly affirmed that the fight against corruption, negativity and waste continues to be carried out resolutely, persistently, continuously and without rest. Contributing to perfecting the institution to ensure that corruption is “impossible”, “not daring”, “not wanting”, “not needing”; putting the interests of the nation, people and Party above all; best serving the task of socio-economic development.

The verdicts have convicted the right people, demonstrating the strictness of the law and ensuring humanity in trials. There have been no cases of wrongful conviction of innocent people.

The trial of the four major cases mentioned above also shows the necessity of continuing to clarify the causes and conditions for the occurrence of crimes, drawing lessons from experience, thereby rectifying and strengthening state management and socio-economic management to prevent and stop similar incidents in the future.

Explaining the reason why the rate of detected corruption crimes tends to increase compared to the previous period, the representative of the Ministry of Public Security affirmed that under the attention and close direction of the Party and State, the fight against corruption, economic and position-related crimes has been carried out effectively with many outstanding results, receiving the consensus, support and high appreciation of the people.

It is noteworthy that the overall trend of corruption crimes is decreasing. The increase rate compared to the same period only shows the number of cases detected and handled within a certain period of time, not showing the increasing trend of this type of crime.

On October 29, 2024, the Politburo issued Regulation No. 191-QD/TW on the functions, tasks, powers, working regime, and working relations of the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity (replacing Regulation No. 32-QD/TW, dated September 16, 2021) and Decision No. 192-QD/TW on strengthening the Central Steering Committee on preventing and combating corruption, waste, and negativity, which added to the Steering Committee the task of preventing and combating waste, with the focus of preventing and combating waste being in the management and use of public finance and public assets.

The new context of the country requires all classes of people, especially cadres, party members, and organizations to resolutely and synchronously deploy effective solutions to prevent and combat waste associated with preventing and combating corruption and negativity so that the fight against waste creates a strong spread, becomes voluntary and self-aware of each cadre, party member, and citizen; becomes a behavioral culture in the new era, contributing to the rapid development and strong rise of the country.
