At modern distribution systems, many essential goods are being discounted 30-50% compared to normal days, the Tet goods market is bustling on the 26th day of Tet.


Purchasing power gradually increases

According to a quick report on the market situation of some Tet goods from the Domestic Market Department - Ministry of Industry and Trade, on the morning of January 25, the 26th of the Lunar New Year, the 2025 Lunar New Year holiday begins on the 26th of the Lunar New Year, earlier than every year, so people's Tet shopping time is extended. Trading activities have been bustling since last weekend due to increased demand during the Ong Cong Ong Tao festival (December 23).

Purchasing power in the distribution system gradually increases

By the 26th day of the Lunar New Year, consumers focus on shopping for items such as: cakes, candies, alcohol, soft drinks, dried foods, etc.; the demand for fresh foods, vegetables, fruits is not high, usually concentrated on the days close to Tet. The supply of goods at traditional markets as well as shopping centers, supermarkets, and convenience stores is abundant, with diverse and rich goods.

At modern distribution systems, the number of customers coming to shop has increased by 20-30% compared to normal days. In recent years, people tend to choose to buy goods at modern distribution channels more, not only because of the variety of goods, guaranteed quality, branded, clear origin, convenient shopping locations but also because there are many attractive promotions and discounts to stimulate consumption at the end of the year.

Regarding prices, many essential consumer goods are currently discounted by up to 30-50%, many systems have registered to participate in the Market Stabilization Program in localities with a commitment to ensure stable prices for 1 month before and after Tet, attracting many consumers. In addition, the systems also promote online sales channels to meet people's modern shopping needs.

In traditional markets, supply has also increased, the demand for fresh food has increased compared to normal days, mainly serving the year-end party. Prices of food items at the market have increased slightly according to normal rules.

" Up to now, the prices of most essential goods for Tet have not increased dramatically, pork prices are stable compared to December 23; large tiger shrimp prices have increased by about 5% compared to normal days; prices of high-quality rice and sticky rice are relatively stable " - the report clearly stated.

Some other goods such as chicken and beef are priced the same as on December 23. Compared to the same period last year, the prices of vegetables and some flowers such as chrysanthemums, lilies, gladiolus, and roses are about 5-10% cheaper and there is no shortage.

Specific prices of some items

Reports from distribution channels show that, up to now, prices of some food items such as high-quality rice and delicious sticky rice to serve the needs of Tet holiday tend to increase slightly, about 5-7% (depending on time and region) compared to normal days, while regular rice remains stable, with abundant supply.

Specifically, the price of high-quality rice in the North ranges from 25,000 - 42,000 VND/kg, in the South from 22,000 - 38,000 VND/kg; the price of sticky rice in the North ranges from 29,000 - 38,000 VND/kg, in the South from 27,000 - 34,000 VND/kg.

As for fresh food, as usual, fresh food prices tend to increase slightly in the days near Tet due to high consumption demand but supply is still guaranteed to meet consumer demand. Pork, beef and chicken prices increased slightly by about 5% compared to normal days.

Currently, the common price of pork is: rump 110,000-120,000 VND/kg, price of pork loin and belly 130,000-150,000 VND/kg; grade I beef tenderloin from 250,000-270,000 VND/kg; price of feathered chicken 120,000-150,000 VND/kg; price of shrimp (26-30 pieces/kg): 400,000-450,000 VND/kg.

For vegetables, tubers and fruits: Due to favorable weather, the supply of vegetables and fruits is quite abundant, diverse, and prices are stable. The prices of some popular vegetables are as follows: cabbage: 10,000-15,000 VND/kg, kohlrabi: 5,000 VND/root, lettuce: 15,000-30,000 VND/kg, tomatoes: 10,000-15,000 VND/kg (depending on the locality), potatoes: 15,000-20,000 VND/kg, cauliflower: 10,000-15,000 VND/plant...

For fruit items: Prices of some delicious fruits for Tet offerings such as mandarin oranges, tangerines, dragon fruit, Hoa Loc mango, star apples... have increased slightly compared to normal days. Specifically: Dragon fruit 60,000-75,000 VND/kg; mango 50,000-60,000 VND/kg; mandarin orange 50,000-70,000 VND/kg; pomelo 20,000-25,000 VND/kg... In particular, green bananas to serve the traditional Tet fruit tray have increased in price compared to normal days due to the supply being affected after storm number 3 (typhoon Yagi). At traditional markets, the price of this item ranges from 100,000 - 250,000 VND/bunch, depending on the location.

Regarding flowers and ornamental plants, this year, due to favorable weather conditions for the growth of flowers and ornamental plants, the supply is abundant, so the prices of some types of flowers tend to decrease compared to last year. The prices of some popular flowers are as follows: Lilies from 200,000 - 350,000 VND/dozen depending on the type; Gladiolus from 80,000 - 100,000 VND/dozen; large chrysanthemums about 40,000 - 60,000 VND/dozen; roses 50,000 - 70,000 VND/dozen... As for peach blossoms and kumquat trees for Tet, the prices increased compared to last year due to limited supply in some growing areas in the North after the impact of storm No. 3.

Processed food prices are stable compared to December 23. Specifically: The current common price of pork roll is from 150,000-170,000 VND/kg, the price of beef roll is about 280,000-300,000 VND/kg, the price of banh chung fluctuates from 50,000-70,000 VND/piece (depending on size and weight).

Prices of alcohol, beer, confectionery and sweets are relatively stable compared to normal days and slightly increased compared to the same period last year due to increased costs. Compared to December 23, prices tend to be stable. Specifically, prices of some popular types are as follows: Hanoi canned beer costs from 270,000-280,000 VND/carton; Saigon Special canned beer costs from 340,000-350,000 VND/carton; Heineken canned beer costs from 450,000-460,000 VND/carton; Cocacola, Pepsi costs from 180,000-190,000 VND/carton; Hanoi Vodka 700ml costs from: 120,000-130,000 VND/bottle; Hanoi jam costs from 65,000-108,000 VND/box of 200-300 grams; Sunflower seeds price from: 80,000-120,000 VND/kg...

According to the Domestic Market Department, it is forecasted that demand may continue to increase in the days leading up to Tet. However, due to the abundant and diverse supply of goods, which gives consumers many choices when shopping for Tet, and the long preparation time for shopping, prices of goods in the market will generally not fluctuate much. Prices at traditional markets may increase slightly according to market rules, while at modern distribution systems, goods are committed to keeping prices stable, helping people feel secure when shopping for Tet.
