On the afternoon of April 15, the Organizing Committee of the VnExpress Marathon Volvo All-Star held a press conference to inform the press about the tournament. Accordingly, unlike previous mass marathons, the VnExpress Marathon Volvo All-Star requires participants to prove their running ability through other regular tournaments within the last year.
Specifically, to compete in the 42.195km distance, male athletes must have a time of under 4 hours, while female athletes must have a time of under 5 hours. For the 21.1km half marathon distance, the requirement is under 2 hours for men and under 2 hours 30 minutes for women.

With quite high criteria for athletes, the Race still attracted about 2,000 athletes to participate. The representative of the Organizing Committee said that, thanks to the limited number of athletes participating, the Race will start at 5:00 a.m. instead of 3:00 a.m. in most other tournaments. Therefore, athletes will have the best physical strength to compete as well as enough time to move a large number of athletes from My Dinh area to the competition venue.
Notably, the race route is designed to be flat, with few curves, and optimized for speed. The route is located in the Hoa Lac high-tech park - a place with modern infrastructure, open space, and little traffic. The organizers said that they have arranged up to 20 water stations, of which from km 16 to 34, the stations are placed up to 300m long to support athletes during the "over-threshold" stage.

The VnExpress Marathon Volvo All-Star has a total prize of up to 700 million VND, including 100 million VND in cash for the male and female marathon champions, and 40 million VND for the 21km champion. The organizers also awarded trophies to champions in 4 different age groups.
