Many Japanese businesses want to invest in Hanoi

Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen expressed her joy at the increasingly developing friendly relationship between Vietnam and Japan over the past 50 years.

In the first 6 months of 2023 alone, Japan had 38 new projects with a total investment of about 100 million USD.

Some large projects are highly appreciated and effective such as the North Hanoi smart city, two projects of Nidec Group in Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, some other projects in Bac Thang Long Industrial Park, Thach That - Quoc Oai Industrial Park...

Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen highly appreciated the relationship between Japanese investors and Vietnamese workers at enterprises.

Japan is also the country providing the largest official development assistance (ODA) to Hanoi at present with 34 projects and a total committed capital of more than 2,981 million USD, including 27 non-refundable aid projects.

Most of Japan's ODA projects invest in important areas such as infrastructure, socio-economics... These projects contribute significantly to the growth of Hanoi's gross regional domestic product (GRDP).

Regarding import and export, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen said that in the first 6 months of the year, export turnover from Hanoi to the Japanese market reached 674 million USD and accounted for 9.9% of the total export turnover of the capital.

In the opposite direction, imported goods from Japan to Hanoi reached about 1.1 billion USD, accounting for about 8% of the city's total import turnover.

In recent years, Hanoi has maintained cooperative relations with the capital Tokyo and many major cities of Japan and has always placed these relationships at the top of the city's foreign policy.

Announcing the general situation of Hanoi, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen said that in the first 9 months of 2023, economic growth reached 6.24%. Political, cultural and social activities have returned to normal after the Covid-19 pandemic.

At the meeting, Standing Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee Nguyen Thi Tuyen also shared some plans to be implemented during her upcoming visit to Tokyo and Fukuoka, and hoped that the cooperative relationship between the two countries in general, and between Hanoi and Japanese localities in particular, will continue to be effectively enhanced and deepened in the coming time.

Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Yamada Takio said that the Vietnamese market has many business opportunities and Hanoi is a central destination that many Japanese enterprises have affirmed and wish to continue investing here.

Although investors have faced many difficulties recently due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Hanoi has created the best conditions for Japanese businesses to operate in the area.

Ambassador Yamada Takio said that in the last two months of 2023, Japan will continue to organize a number of events within the framework of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

In particular, from November 17-19, the Kanagawa Festival in Hanoi 2023 will take place in the walking space around Hoan Kiem Lake and its vicinity. He hopes that the city government will coordinate and help to ensure that the above events take place smoothly.

Welcoming the upcoming visit of the Hanoi delegation to Japan, Ambassador Yamada Takio affirmed that he is ready to help and share information... to make the visit highly effective.

At the meeting, the two sides also discussed in depth measures to remove specific difficulties and obstacles in implementing a number of projects, and shared each side's concerns and wishes in this field in the coming time.
