On November 6, it was recorded that at a 4 km stretch of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway, from Mai Chi Tho Street to Vo Chi Cong Street and vice versa, about 15 median strips were stolen.
These median strips are made from many steel pillars and pipes. Of the 15 stolen locations, about 30 pillars and 65 pipes were stolen. The most stolen section even had 5 pillars and 10 pipes, with a median strip length of about 10 meters.
Just from the section of road from Mai Chi Tho street to Vo Chi Cong street, there were 23 pillars and 45 pipes lost, while in the opposite direction, about 7 pillars and 20 pipes were lost.
At the missing locations, the screw heads are still jagged and not deformed, showing that the pillars and pipes were not sawed or impacted by strong force, but were turned by a thief using a wrench.
According to observations, this highway access road has a high density of cars, tractors and motorbikes. The loss of the median strip makes many people concerned about traffic safety.
Responding to the press about the above incident, a representative of Vietnam Expressway Technical Services Joint Stock Company said that previously (around the end of October), the unit's patrol staff discovered the incident during a patrol and reported it to local authorities and related units for handling.
On the afternoon of November 6, Phu Huu Ward Police (Thu Duc City) announced that they had arrested a young man who was a suspect in the incident. This person was arrested while driving a motorbike carrying many T-pillars and steel pipes suspected to be property of the highway median strip.
The case is currently under further investigation by the authorities.
