In the show On The Chair on February 11, Mr. Nguyen Quyet - the person who sells the most Volvo cars in Vietnam - shared about his career change.
Change but still 'Volvo Decision'
* 7 years ago, I had the opportunity to interview you once. Since then, what changes have you made?
- For those in sales, 7 years is a long time. I started working at Volvo in 2016, so it's been 9 years now. I was lucky to join at a time when the company entered the market, expanded and grew.
I always try to maximize my sales and aim to be the best salesperson. Thanks to that hard work and the support of my colleagues, I have achieved the best salesperson position and maintained it for many consecutive years.
After a few years of working solely in sales, I made a career change by taking on a management role. In addition to direct sales, I train, guide, share experiences and secrets of the sales profession with new friends.
Thanks to that, I realized one thing, selling and selling a lot for personal achievement is only a part. More importantly, I have a strong sales team, with close colleagues like family.
I myself have also changed a lot since moving from a normal salesperson to a management position.
* Why did you decide to change jobs when you were so successful?
- In the car sales business, not only do we need to change, but customers also change over time.
In the early days of selling cars, customers were often concerned about the selling price, brand value and features of the car. But today’s customers are more concerned about the value they receive, what else they will get when buying a car from me, whether the car they buy has served their needs or not…
Therefore, we need to change, always improve and accumulate experience. We change from the way we sell, the way we find customers.
I also need to change my work mindset when I move from a salesperson to a sales manager. From there, my responsibility is also greater, I have to lead the members of the department to progress together, achieving the targets set by the company.
* Why did you decide to quit your job at Volvo and move to another environment?
- This is not a job change but just the next step in my career and life journey.
As the old saying goes, everyone has to grow up. We start from kindergarten, go to primary school, high school and then university. The same goes for those of us who work in the profession. This is my 9th year working at Volvo, almost one of the oldest people here, from a regular salesperson to a sales manager.
From what I have learned and accumulated at Volvo, when I go out into life, I really want to have something for my own career. I want to develop myself more, have greater things not only for myself but also for my colleagues.
I can build my own brand, or launch a used car business project… to continue my passion for sales. I still want to bring customers the best cars and serve them with the most satisfaction.
* What is behind the decision to change jobs at this time?
- I started at Volvo at the invitation of a brother. He felt that I had potential to develop so he contacted me. Since then, I have learned a lot and have achieved certain titles.
For this change, I was the one who made the decision to balance my life, between work and family.
In the early days of our career, people like us were always enthusiastic, able to visit customers from day to night, able to participate in long-term event trips in the province, even not returning home for a whole month.
But as I grew up, got married and had children, I wanted to rearrange my work and spend more time with my family.
Besides, I wanted to make my mark in my career. Therefore, I decided to quit my job at Volvo and start a new journey.
* In the new environment, what goals do you set for yourself?
- Even though I no longer work for the company and have moved into a new business area, my guiding principle is still what I learned while working at Volvo. That is dedication and professionalism.
Society and customers are always changing, everything is geared towards professionalism and dedication. When these two factors are not achieved, business will be very difficult.
Customers have changed
* Now here are 10 quick questions for you.
Direct sales or sales management?
- Sales manager. If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with your friends.
I would like to emphasize that there is absolutely no gender discrimination. Do you prefer male or female customers?
- I choose male customers. Because with cars, men will have a deeper understanding and love more.
Do you choose older or younger customers?
- I choose younger customers. Nowadays, young customers buy a lot of cars . Previously, Volvo buyers were mostly older brothers, uncles, and aunts. But now, I have sold many cars to young people of Gen Z.
You guys are very good, knowledgeable, and well-behaved. From the way you shop to the way you share, I have a lot to learn.
Work alone or in a team?
- Teamwork.
Sports car or luxury car?
- I choose luxury cars. I still like sports cars but my career orientation is still luxury cars. Luxury cars still include sports cars.
Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City?
- Hanoi. However, if asked what my wish is, I wish for all of Vietnam.
If you had 100 billion dong, what would you do?
- I will still do car business. 100 billion if I do nothing will still be 100 billion. But if I do business, there will be many more hundreds of billions.
If you only have 1 million dong left, what will you do?
- I will start from scratch, working my way up from sales.
If you retire, what will you do?
- I will still do business, because business has no retirement age.
What is your wish?
- I want to take all of my family, about 100 people, on a trip together, anywhere. However, I still haven't been able to do it, I haven't been able to arrange the time, location, work, and finances.
* Thank you for sharing.
