Statistical data from the individual financial reports of 27 commercial banks show that the total number of officers and employees still working at the end of 2024 is 241,417 people, an increase of nearly 5,500 people after one year.
How will banking industry personnel change in 2024?
If calculated based on the consolidated financial statements (including parent banks and subsidiaries of the bank), the total number of employees in the banking industry is up to 278,898 people, an increase of nearly 7,200 people compared to the end of 2023.
The general trend in the industry is increasing, but each bank records different fluctuations in staff size.
Most banks hire more staff than they leave. On the contrary, some banks have recorded a large number of staff leaving.
Typically, Sacombank, the parent bank, reduced 354 employees after one year, leaving 17,058 people at the end of last year.
Taking a more "aggressive" approach in restructuring its apparatus, BIDV also reduced 1,107 employees at the parent bank. By the end of 2024, BIDV will have 26,069 people.
VIB is also one of the banks that has reduced its staff size by 476 people after one year, to 11,323 employees by December 31, 2024.
Previously, in 2023, VIB was a bright spot in terms of recruitment scale when it increased by 1,859 people after one year.
Similarly, ACB - the bank chaired by Mr. Tran Hung Huy, also cut 377 people in 2024 after recruiting heavily in 2023. ACB brought the total number of remaining employees at the end of 2024 to 12,847 people.
Some other banks such as TPBank, ABBank, Nam A Bank, KienlongBank... also "reduced" staff after one year of operation, but the number is not large.
On the contrary, many banks expanded their operations as the number of employees increased sharply compared to the beginning of the year. The strongest increase was recorded at MBBank when this bank recruited 1,674 more people, bringing the total number of employees to 12,155.
VPBank, chaired by Mr. Ngo Chi Dung, will also recruit 1,404 more employees in 2024. Or HDBank will also increase by 965 people, Vietcombank (+796 people), LPBank (+562 people), BVBank (+292 people), Vietbank (+321 people)...
Which bank has the most employees?
According to statistical data on the consolidated financial statements of 27 banks in 2024, the "Big 4" group (excluding Agribank because it has not yet published its report) is still the bank with the "overwhelming" number of employees in the system.
In particular, BIDV, despite significant cuts, is still the bank with the largest number of employees, with 28,998 people at the end of 2024. BIDV is also the bank with the highest customer deposits in the entire system in 2024, with more than 1.95 million billion VND.
With a strong growth rate like in 2024, BIDV will soon become a bank that reaches a deposit scale of 2 million billion VND by 2025. No bank in the history of the system has achieved this level.
In the "Big 4" group, Vietinbank and Vietcombank also have the same number of merged employees, with 24,731 and 24,036 people, respectively.
However, both of the above banks are still "losing" to a private bank, VPBank, in terms of personnel size. As of December 31, 2024, VPBank has 27,428 employees.
There are currently 3 banks with a workforce of over 15,000 people, including: Sacombank (18,088), MBBank (18,639), HDBank (18,533).
Some mid-sized banks have more than 10,000 employees, including: Techcombank (11,848), LPBank (11,189), ACB (13,290), VIB (11,736)...
Also in 2024, the banking industry continued to experience a year of good profit growth.
With business "prospering", many banks tend to pay higher incomes to their employees.
Techcombank continues to be the "champion" in employee income in 2024, although it does not have the most employees or the highest profits. Accordingly, the average income of this bank's officers and employees is 49 million VND/month/person.
Most notably, NCB suddenly increased its income and entered the group of banks paying employees over 30 million VND/month.
Specifically, the consolidated financial statement notes show that the average monthly income of each NCB employee in 2024 will increase to nearly 31 million VND, an increase of 7.2 million VND compared to 2023.
With this increase, NCB also becomes the bank with the highest increase in employee income in the system.
