Ha Giang: Not choosing English as the third subject for 10th grade entrance exam
On February 12, the Ha Giang Department of Education and Training announced the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year. Accordingly, the locality chose History - Geography as the third subject in this year's 10th grade entrance exam. The remaining two subjects are Math and Literature.
Candidates register for the entrance exam to specialized high schools in 4 subjects: Math, Literature, History - Geography (non-specialized) and specialized subject, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that specialized subject.
The Department of Education and Training requires educational institutions to implement the school's plan and consolidate review for 9th grade students to take the appropriate exam. Up to now, Ha Giang is the only locality to finalize History - Geography for the 10th grade entrance exam.

Dak Lak: The third subject is Foreign Language.
Also on February 12, the Dak Lak Department of Education and Training announced that the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year is Foreign Language (English, French).
The Foreign Language exam (English, French) is in the form of multiple choice objective tests. The exam time is 60 minutes.
Previously, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 30/KH-UBND dated February 10, 2025 on admission to grade 10 high school for the 2025-2026 school year: admission to grade 10 of public high schools is conducted by entrance exam with 3 common subjects: Math and Literature (duration 120 minutes/subject, test in essay form); subject 3 (test in objective or essay form).
The exam content is based on the general education program for secondary schools, mainly grade 9, issued by the Department of Education and Training. The exam is expected to take place on 2 days: June 5 and 6, 2025. The exam schedule may change 60 days before the exam to suit the actual situation.
Nam Dinh: The third exam subject is Foreign Language.
On the afternoon of February 11, Director of the Nam Dinh Department of Education and Training Nguyen Xuan Hong signed and issued a Notice to the Provincial People's Committee and affiliated units stating that the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year in the province is Foreign Language; in which candidates can choose one of the following subjects: English, Russian or French.
Candidates will have 60 minutes to complete the test; the test format is a combination of multiple choice and essay questions, with the multiple choice part accounting for no more than 75% of the total score. Thus, Nam Dinh will organize the 10th grade high school entrance exam in 2025 with three subjects: Math, Literature and Foreign Language.
When will Hanoi announce the third exam subject?
A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that they are urgently researching and drafting a plan to enroll students in the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including 10th grade enrollment.
Admission to grade 10 is conducted by examination, including two subjects: Literature and Mathematics; the third exam subject is expected to be announced in February 2025.
A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that this year's 10th grade entrance exam is the first exam of the 2018 General Education Program. The Department will decide when to announce the third exam subject and when to implement it for the best results.
Previously, Hanoi was expected to announce the third subject of the 10th grade entrance exam at the end of March, but according to the Prime Minister's direction, the announcement time will be pushed up earlier.

In the regulations on secondary and high school admissions from 2025 issued in early January 2025, the Ministry of Education and Training stipulates: The entrance exam for grade 10 includes two compulsory subjects: Math and Literature, and a third subject (or a combined exam) selected by the Department of Education and Training from subjects assessed by scores, but no subject can be selected for more than three consecutive years.
