With a warm voice, Mr. Huynh Chi Vien - founder and CEO of BHV English Center expressed his great concern when sharing with us the story of most students learning English from elementary to high school but not being able to use this language in life.

In 2001, student Huynh Chi Vien went to the US to study English Pedagogy at Nicholls State University, Louisiana, with confidence in his English proficiency: he had studied English since he was 4 years old, always ranked at the top of English scores in English major classes in high school and achieved a "proud" TOEFL score. But when he just set foot on the airport in the US, he was "drenched with cold water" when he could not understand what the airport staff said to him. He confided: "From that moment, I understood that scores on paper cannot replace practical English proficiency. That further motivated me to follow the path of teaching English to bring real knowledge to learners, not just helping them get certificates and then having to struggle when using English in real life."
After graduating from the English pedagogy major in the US, Mr. Huynh Chi Vien returned to Vietnam and patiently "taught for hire", accumulating experience so that in the future he could open his own English training center, developing a different method and philosophy in teaching and learning English that he had cherished for many years. He always emphasized that an extremely important factor in teaching English is that the teacher must be good at both language and culture because "If you do not understand and love the culture of a language, you cannot master that language, even if it is your mother tongue".
During his time working for English centers, Mr. Vien always struggled with the big question: "What is the problem when students spend a lot of time studying English but the level they achieve is only slightly above basic?" According to him, that is because students are not taught how to think so they can study on their own but are completely dependent on teachers. Students can memorize formulas but cannot explain and analyze formulas, and do not even question the names and meanings of the formulas they have learned. Therefore, even if they spend 8 hours a day studying, many students only "chew" knowledge without understanding the essence.

The struggles during his time as a "hired teacher" further urged Mr. Huynh Chi Vien to open his own center, and to find a way to help as many people as possible become good at English "in substance and with courage". 5 years ago, the BHV English Center founded by Mr. Huynh Chi Vien was born at 01 Co Bac, Ward 1, Phu Nhuan District, Ho Chi Minh City with a team of teachers who were strictly selected in both ethics and expertise. "I want my center to help students overcome thousands of obstacles with English and help them become fluent in this foreign language with real courage, not by learning tricks - learning quickly to take exams to get a degree or temporary certificate and that's it", Mr. Vien said.
During the establishment and operation of BHV English Center, Mr. Vien determined not to focus on exam preparation. The center focuses on the goal of using English in all real-life situations. “As a teacher, I feel ashamed when I only focus on teaching students tips to get high scores on exams, not real knowledge that students can use in practice. Changing the mindset of English learners is the responsibility of the teacher, forcing me to do it. Once students determine the mindset of learning not only to get degrees and certificates but to use English fluently, that is my reward,” the teacher of tens of thousands of students in Vietnam and many countries around the world confided.
Mr. Vien and BHV English Center have just launched an extremely large plan with many aspirations, which is the program "Upgrading English for free for 1,000 English teachers nationwide in 5 years". Through this "social responsibility" program, Mr. Vien hopes to help teachers approach the Language Analysis method. He explains that it is a way of analyzing from the perspective of a native speaker to understand the nature of language, then compare the correlation between English and Vietnamese.

With the free English upgrade program for 1,000 English teachers nationwide, Mr. Vien said the course will take place online on the Zoom platform. Each class has about 20 people, lasting 1 month. Every year, BHV English conducts 10 training classes, upgrading English for 200 teachers, and 1,000 teachers in 5 years.
