The incident happened today (September 24), while on duty patrolling and guarding the bridge, Mr. Chu Van Dai, a railway employee, discovered Ms. Dang Thi H., born in 1968 - in Giap Son Village - Cam Ly Commune, Luc Nam District (Bac Giang) intentionally riding an electric bicycle into the middle of the bridge to cross the bridge (in the direction from Kep to Ha Long).
This is an area where bicycles and motorbikes are prohibited. When reaching the beginning of Span 2 - Luc Nam Bridge, because the pedal got stuck on the bridge edge, Ms. H. lost her composure, swerved the handlebars and fell into the Luc Nam River.
Upon hearing the cry for help, the bridge guards and some locals immediately came out to help throw the life jacket hanging on the bridge railing into the river for the victim.
Mr. Le Thanh Tuan was fishing on the riverbank and swam out to save the person, but due to exhaustion, he had to swim to shore.
At that moment, Mr. Chu Van Dai (born in 1971, employee of Cam Ly Supply and Demand - Ha Lang Railway Joint Stock Company) promptly put on a life jacket and a piece of rope to swim out to the middle of the river to rescue and bring the victim safely to shore.
Luc Nam Bridge (km 24+134 Kep - Ha Long route, according to railway route) or also known as Cam Ly Bridge, across Luc Nam River (Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province) was built in 1979, is a railway bridge used for both trains and cars.
Although the bridge only allows cars to enter the bridge, there are still many cases where people do not understand the regulations and signs or still intentionally enter, causing difficulties in ensuring the safety of people and vehicles when participating in traffic.
Vietnam Railway Corporation said that the separation of the road and railway bridges will soon be implemented by the Ministry of Transport in the near future. In the meantime, this unit requests that traffic participants strictly comply with regulations to ensure safety of railway and road traffic.
