Speaking to journalists at a digital conference in Moscow on August 11, the minister, Maksut Shadaev, confirmed that he had issued a ban on the use of Apple mobile devices, including iPhones and iPads, for accessing applications and exchanging emails at work.
However, employees "are still allowed to use iPhones for personal needs."
The ban was issued by the Russian Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Communications two months after Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) warned that thousands of Apple devices had been hacked in a US cyber espionage campaign.
In late May, the FSB announced the uncovering of a cyber espionage campaign originating from the United States, in which the US side used complex spy software to infiltrate many iPhone devices.
According to the FSB, US hackers also penetrated the devices of diplomats from Israel, Syria, China and members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
Denying the allegations, Apple said it "has never worked with any government to build 'backdoors' into Apple products, and never will."
The US National Security Agency (NSA), which the FSB accused of collaborating with Apple, declined to comment at the time.
From mid-July, the Russian Ministry of Trade said it would ban employees from using iPhones for "work purposes".
