Following the direction of the district and the agricultural sector, Tam Nong Agricultural Extension Station actively carries out propaganda work, provides technical guidance, and replicates effective models. Agricultural extension work is truly a "bridge" bringing science and technology to farmers, contributing to restructuring agriculture, increasing people's income, and sustainably reducing poverty in the area.
Tam Nong District Agricultural Extension Station guides chrysanthemum planting and care techniques for households implementing the model in Huong Non commune.
Comrade Dao Bien Thuy - Deputy Head of the Station said: “The selection and determination of content and forms of propaganda, training and coaching play an important role in spreading good models and practices at the grassroots level. The Station focuses on coordinating with the commune authorities in surveying and assessing farmers' training needs and selecting the right trainees. The propaganda and transfer contents are suitable for the needs, farming conditions, seasons, qualifications and agricultural production capacity of the locality. In the context of climate change and increasing demands for food safety, the training content focuses on safe production processes, restructuring crops and livestock and developing linkages from production to consumption”.
In 2024, the Station organized 22 conferences and technical training courses for over 1,000 people, including grassroots agricultural extension workers and farmers, on new and advanced techniques in livestock and crop farming such as: Planting and caring for citrus fruit trees; raising catfish in ponds; techniques for planting and caring for winter corn; techniques for raising honey bees and cows using artificial insemination to improve local cattle herds; using new fertilizers for crops... The training sessions not only provide theoretical knowledge but also combine direct practice, helping people easily absorb and apply it immediately in production.
Based on the assessment of the adaptability of crops and livestock to the conditions and farming skills of local people, the District Agricultural Extension Station selects promising agricultural models to propose and pilot implementation. The Station coordinates with the locality to select capable households to implement, guides households during the implementation process, regularly checks progress, and evaluates lessons learned. In 2024, the Station implemented 10 demonstration models on cultivating new rice varieties, raising catfish in ponds, testing new squash varieties, growing medicinal plants, winter squash, sweet bamboo shoots on hilly land, growing chrysanthemums, etc.
At the same time, coordinate with the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center to develop a model of raising goats for meat for 5 poor and near-poor households in Lam Son commune, with a scale of 40 goats; a model of raising commercial chickens to serve the Lunar New Year for poor and near-poor households in Bac Son commune, with a scale of 2,000 chickens for 8 households; a model of raising breeding cows in Dan Quyen commune, with a scale of 11 households; a model to improve the quality of domestic bee colonies in Quang Huc and Tho Van communes.
Agricultural extension activities in the area not only help increase productivity and income but also change farmers' thinking and working methods. From being afraid of innovation, they have become more proactive in learning and applying new technologies, and linking product consumption. Thereby, contributing to sustainable agricultural development, meeting the requirements of modernization and adapting to the challenges of climate change.
Te Le is a commune with a relatively developed agricultural economy. In addition to the main crops of corn and rice, the locality has developed a number of models of growing medicinal plants and maintaining livestock and poultry. Comrade Dang Tran Hung - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "Agricultural extension plays an important role in local agricultural development, especially in converting crop structure, building demonstration models of new plants and breeds, and transferring new science and technology in production. In particular, many poor and near-poor households have access to and been trained in new farming techniques to apply in production, bringing about efficiency, contributing to increasing income and sustainable poverty reduction".
In the coming time, the Station will continue to coordinate with the National Agricultural Extension Center, the Provincial Agricultural Extension Center, research institutes, seed production companies and related units to deploy training, propaganda, dissemination and replication of models with high economic efficiency; build demonstration models of high technology, biotechnology and cutting-edge models, suitable for actual conditions in localities, helping producers increase income and reduce poverty. Along with that, promptly and fully convey and introduce policies and guidelines on agricultural and rural development, farming techniques, and new technical advances for people to refer to, learn and replicate.
