The contractor of the expressway through Binh Dinh traveled hundreds of kilometers to Khanh Hoa to find a source of stone that ensures quality.


Proactive source of quality stone

The 70km Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway through Binh Dinh province has been continuously experiencing heavy rain, many main items cannot be constructed, but the contractor is still not idle.

In addition to flexibly responding to floods, protecting the achieved volume and moving on to secondary items, contractors are also urgently looking for suitable stone sources to be ready to lay asphalt pavement when the weather is favorable.

The contractor of the expressway through Binh Dinh is looking for many sources of guaranteed stone to construct the expressway.

In package 12-XL, contractor Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company undertakes the construction of nearly 7km, from Km 50+465 - Km 57+460. Currently, this unit has completed K98 embankment, crushed stone and CTB pavement for some sections, ready to asphalt the road surface when the weather is favorable.

Mr. Mai Huy Cu, Deputy Executive Director of Phuc Loc Group Joint Stock Company, said that right from the time of building the roadbed, the unit proactively surveyed a number of stone mines in the area to be ready to serve the construction when necessary.

However, through a survey of some quarries in Binh Dinh, it was found that the quality of the stone here was not guaranteed, if used for asphalt paving, there was a high risk of affecting the life of the project. Therefore, the unit had to go to other provinces to find stone sources, including surveying quarries in Quang Binh and Khanh Hoa. After that, a contract was signed with a supplier in Khanh Hoa province.

"The 7km unit in this package needs about 100,000m3 of various types of stone for the surface layer. Initially, the estimated cost for 1m3 of stone in Binh Dinh was approximately 300,000 VND. However, the unit had to buy stone from Khanh Hoa province.

After being transported from Khanh Hoa to the construction site, the price of 1m3 of stone will increase from 600 - 700 thousand/m3. The price is much higher, the unit has to redo the cost estimate. Even if it suffers a loss, the unit must choose a source of materials that ensure quality to construct this national key project," Mr. Cu shared.

These days, the stone material source is transported by the supplier by sea to Quy Nhon port. Then transported by road to deliver to the contractor, ready to proceed with asphalt paving when the weather is favorable.

The source of stone for highway pavement is strictly checked to ensure the quality of the project.

In the 12-XL package of the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon expressway, the Traffic Construction Corporation 8 - CTCT (Cienco 8) is in charge of 5km. Currently, the unit has completed all the CTB paving, ready to lay asphalt on the road surface.

During the recent consecutive days of heavy rain, the project temporarily stopped. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Luan, Commander of the unit, went to Khanh Hoa province to find a suitable source of stone, ensuring quality and signed a contract to bring it to the foot of the project, ready to lay asphalt when the weather is more favorable.

Ready to share

At the Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon highway, Son Hai Group has now paved the second layer of asphalt for more than 7km. This is a contractor with a quarry that ensures the quality of the highway surface.

The volume this unit undertakes is up to 22km, while the capacity of the quarry is not high. However, sharing the difficulty in material sources with other contractors at the project, Son Hai Group said that when the construction is completed, if the source of stone at the quarry is still available, the unit will be willing to share with other contractors.

"If there is still stone here, we will transport it to the end of the route to cover the asphalt part of the contractor Truong Thinh Group. The spirit of the unit is to work with other contractors to ensure the progress and quality of the project, bringing this project to the finish line at the right time as required by the investor", a representative of Son Hai Group shared.

Many highway sections through Binh Dinh have been paved with asphalt.

The North-South Expressway through Binh Dinh province is 118km long, including 3 component projects: Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon, Hoai Nhon - Quy Nhon and Quy Nhon - Chi Thanh.

According to the investor's report, the demand for stone used for all 3 sections of the expressway in the province is about 6.5 million m3. Of which, about 4.5 million m3 is taken from commercial mines, 1.05 million m3 is used from the stone excavated from tunnel No. 3 (bordering Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh) and 894 thousand m3 is used from 5 excavated sections on the main route.

According to the approved design survey documents, the stone used as construction material was taken from the excavated stone of tunnel No. 3 of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway. However, judging that this stone source was unusable, the investor proposed to increase the capacity of 4 mines (Binh De, Kim Thanh, Truong Thinh, Hoai My Cooperatives), with an estimated reserve of more than 1 million m3 within 2 years to serve the project.

In response to the above proposal, the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province has decided to increase the capacity of the mineral exploitation license granted to Hoai My Trading Company Limited in Hoai Chau Bac commune, Hoai Nhon town and the quarry in the area west of Binh De pass (Hoai Chau Bac commune, Hoai Nhon town) of Truong Thinh Company to serve the construction of the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway.
