BHG - Taking advantage of the climate, the people of Quan Ba district are gradually affirming their position as a vegetable production area of the province. The green vegetable fields not only create a vivid agricultural picture in the middle of the mountains and forests, but also bring stable income to the people, contributing to promoting sustainable agricultural economic development at the gateway to the Stone Plateau.

Coming to Quyet Tien commune, one of the leading localities in transforming crop structure, it is easy to feel the bustling production atmosphere here. Under the sunlight, the green vegetable fields stretch out, adding to the richness of the highlands. People are busy harvesting and taking care of each row of vegetables, bringing clean and safe agricultural products to the market. With a cool climate all year round, abundant water resources and fertile land, Quyet Tien is affirming its role as a key vegetable growing area of the district.

Ms. Lu Thi Mai, Dong Tinh village, Quyet Tien commune shared: “My family converted the ineffective corn growing area to growing vegetables with high economic value. We cultivate 3 main types of vegetables including tomatoes, cucumbers and cabbage on an area of 7,000 m2, rotating 3 crops each year. Thanks to that, the total revenue is about 650 million VND/year; after deducting expenses, the profit is about 350 million VND. Such results are achieved thanks to applying new techniques in cultivation, and proactively linking with businesses to stably consume products”.

From effective models like that of Ms. Mai's family, Quyet Tien commune has formed a concentrated vegetable area with a total area of 490 hectares. Of which, the cucumber area accounts for over 209 hectares, tomatoes about 148 hectares, the rest are other vegetables. These models are concentrated in the villages: Nam Luong, Din San, Dong Tinh, Bo Lach, Tan Tien, Vinh Tien... Thanks to the application of technical advances and production organization according to VietGAP standards, productivity, output and quality of agricultural products have all been significantly improved.

Comrade Nguyen Van Tuan, Vice Chairman of Quyet Tien Commune People's Committee said: "The commune has established 6 agricultural cooperatives, organizing vegetable production according to safety standards. We coordinate to open technical training courses, support people in borrowing capital and accompany them in the production conversion process. In 2024, the total vegetable output of the commune will reach more than 15,325 tons, with an estimated total income of over 76 billion VND. Products are consumed at safe vegetable stores in the province and supermarket systems in Hanoi."

Not only Quyet Tien, many other localities in the district are also actively converting production and developing vegetable areas towards commodities. In Quan Ba commune, the vegetable growing area reaches 10.16 hectares, the annual output is about 1,200 tons, the average harvest value is 70 million VND/ha. The total income from vegetable growing in the whole commune reaches over 700 million VND per year. According to statistics, the whole Quan Ba district currently has over 2,598 hectares of vegetables, tubers and fruits of all kinds, with an output of nearly 72,400 tons, an increase of 108.3% over the same period last year. Specialized areas are mainly concentrated in the communes of Quan Ba, Quyet Tien, Dong Ha, Lung Tam, Tung Vai, Nghia Thuan... creating a network of safe, effective and sustainable vegetable production.

Comrade Pham Ngoc Pha, Vice Chairman of Quan Ba District People's Committee emphasized: "The district identifies the development of commodity agriculture as a key orientation. We direct specialized departments and offices to coordinate in opening technical training courses, quality control, and supporting infrastructure investment such as irrigation systems and intra-field roads. At the same time, we will promote trade, advertise products, and build the brand of safe vegetables in Quan Ba. The district also advocates integrating resources from national target programs and agricultural and rural development programs to support people in expanding production, improving the quality and competitiveness of products in the market."

The development of safe vegetable growing areas not only helps farmers stabilize their incomes, but also contributes to environmental protection, promoting the shift of crop structure towards efficiency and sustainability. In addition to economic value, these models also have practical significance in hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and improving the quality of life of people in the highlands. With the strong direction of local Party committees and authorities and the consensus of the people, Quan Ba district is gradually building a clean, safe and effective agriculture.
