1,800 billion VND parking terminal upgrades Dong Hoi airport

This morning (July 22), Vietnam Airports Corporation - JSC (ACV) said that the winning bidder of the project, Army Corps 12, is arranging human resources and equipment to begin construction of Component 2 Project "Expanding the aircraft parking lot", under the project "Construction of Passenger Terminal T2 and expansion of the aircraft parking lot - Dong Hoi Airport".

According to the plan, the Project is divided into 2 component projects, implemented on an area of ​​over 15 hectares, with a total investment of 1,844 billion VND (100% ACV capital).

Specifically, for component project 1: Constructing a new T2 Passenger Terminal - Dong Hoi Airport to the Southeast of the existing passenger terminal, with 2 elevations, the terminal area is about 17,567m2 of usable floor; constructing an overpass infrastructure system in front of the terminal, car parking lot, connecting roads and other systems to ensure synchronous exploitation to increase the exploitation capacity of Dong Hoi Airport to 3 million passengers/year, exploiting domestic passengers. Completed and put into operation in the first quarter of 2026.

For component project 2 to expand the aircraft parking lot (build 4 new aircraft parking positions, increase the total parking positions to 8 positions code C), the road surface structure is cement concrete, steel mesh; build a drainage system and a synchronous aircraft parking signal and lighting system. Construction will begin in July 2024. Complete and put into operation in the first quarter of 2025.

To prepare for the project, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province and Dong Hoi airport have planned to organize site clearance early to hand over enough construction sites for contractors to start construction.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, Director of Dong Hoi Airport said: The construction site of Terminal T2 is located in the South, parallel to the existing terminal, about 200m to the South.

"The parking lot will be built on the land area currently used as a parking lot for technical equipment serving flight operations. We have completed the plan to move and arrange a new place for these equipment to park. In addition, the relevant parties have also completed procedures for the defense land area and are preparing for handover," said Mr. Nam.

It is known that Dong Hoi Airport is currently located 6km from Dong Hoi City center, 300m from National Highway 1A. Dong Hoi Airport meets level 4C according to ICAO standards with a runway size of 2,400 x 45m.

The runway, taxiway, and apron are capable of accommodating A320, A321, and similar aircraft and smaller. The 2-storey passenger terminal is fully equipped with aviation and non-aviation facilities, with a designed capacity of about 500,000 passengers per year. In recent years, the number of passengers passing through the port has been very large, averaging from 600,000 to more than 700,000 passengers per year.

Identifying that the exploitation of tourism development potential of Quang Binh province through air routes is very large, in recent years, the People's Committee of Quang Binh province has worked with Vietnam Airports Corporation to develop policies and plans to realize the goal of upgrading Dong Hoi Airport.

According to the leaders of Quang Binh province, the project will be an important foundation for Dong Hoi Airport to develop in the future, in line with the general development of the aviation industry. The project is also a driving force contributing to the effectiveness of socio-economic development, especially for tourism - the spearhead economic sector of Quang Binh province.
