A study based on mice and laboratory cultures at the University of Oregon (USA) has identified a "miracle drug" hidden in hops that can strongly reduce the number of gut bacteria associated with metabolic syndrome.
According to an article published in Microbiome, up to 35% of the adult population in the US has metabolic syndrome, a problem that can lead to memory loss, cardiovascular disease, and type 2 diabetes.

A person is considered to have metabolic syndrome when they have at least two of five factors: abdominal obesity, high blood pressure, high blood sugar, low "good" cholesterol and high triglycerides.
Xanthohumol (TXN), a “miracle” compound in hops, can help. And it’s abundant in hops, the most important ingredient in beer’s flavor.
It is a compound belonging to the flavonoid group, a large group of natural antioxidants found in plants, often abundant in many fruits, vegetables, cereals, wine...
According to Medical Xpress, the authors found that TXN can help reduce bacteria like Oscilibacter that promote inflammation in adipose tissue macrophages and improve glucose metabolism.
This not only helps reduce blood sugar but also reduces fat accumulation by converting glucose into fuel for life activities, thereby also helping to reduce obesity.
Oscilibacter are often at their most "wrong" in high-fat diets, causing a series of mechanisms that promote the factors that make up metabolic syndrome.
This isn’t the first time flavonoid-rich hops have been shown to be good for health. The findings help explain some observational studies that have found that wine and beer in moderation are beneficial rather than harmful.
Of course, these benefits will be overshadowed by the harmful effects if you overuse these alcoholic beverages.
