According to Mr. Le Dinh Tuan, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Son Commune, cracks and subsidence appeared at the dam and around the Dak N'Ting reservoir on August 1. Up to now, the cracks in the hill area near the foot of the dam are about 500 m long, about 150 m deep and show no signs of stopping.
The hill on the right side of the dam is currently sinking, covering an area of about 10 hectares of people's farmland. It is estimated that nearly one million cubic meters of land is at risk of landslides. The dam body also has many large cracks, 10-20 cm. The road on the dam body is broken, and the concrete is protruding.

The Dak N'Ting irrigation reservoir project has a total investment of nearly 137 billion VND, with a capacity of more than 1.2 million m3 of water, serving irrigation for nearly 700 hectares of crops in Quang Son commune. To ensure safety, the commune government has blocked the entrances and exits to the Dak N'Ting irrigation dam and evacuated 34 households in the risk area.
"According to calculations, if the dam breaks, the water level in the downstream area will rise about 2 meters, so we are reviewing to evacuate 140 more households in Dak N'Ting," said Mr. Tuan.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Dak Glong District People's Committee Tran Nam Thuan said that the crack in the dam body is now wider than yesterday. If the heavy rain continues for another week, the risk of the dam breaking is very high.
"The locality has prepared response plans in case the dam breaks," said Mr. Thuan, adding that all dam sluice gates have been opened to drain water from the dam, limit negative consequences and find solutions.
Since the end of July, Dak Nong has been experiencing continuous heavy rains, causing landslides and subsidence on National Highway 14 and the bypass (section through Gia Nghia City); Quang Truc Commune (Tuy Duc District) and Dak N'Drung, Dak Song District.
