High risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas of the North

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of 1 p.m. on September 8, the Northwest region (Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Son La, Yen Bai, Hoa Binh) had widespread rainfall of 40-70mm, with some places receiving over 100mm.

Particularly in Hoa Binh 100-200mm, some places over 300mm; Yen Bai, Hoa Binh 100-200mm; Sapa 237mm; To Mua (Son La province) 483.8mm; Ta Xi Lang (Yen Bai province) 455.2mm.

The Northeast region includes the provinces and cities of Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Thai Nguyen, Lang Son, Bac Can, Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Phu Tho with rainfall of 30-50mm, some places over 80mm. Of which, Ha Giang, Cao Bang have 100-150mm, some places over 250mm; Yen Bai, Hoa Binh have 100-200mm; Vanh Danh (Quang Ninh province) 380mm; Ban Chat (Lang Son province) 268.7mm.

In some localities, there is a high risk of flooding on rivers and streams, flash floods and landslides, especially small rivers in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Hoa Binh, floods may reach alert level 2 to alert level 3.

In addition, floods on the Ngoi Thia River (Yen Bai), Song Boi River (Hoa Binh), Hoang Long River (Ninh Binh) rose above alert level 3; the downstream of the Luc Nam River rose to alert level 2.

In urban areas, cities and provinces in the Northern Delta region, there is a high risk of flooding due to heavy rain, especially in provinces and cities such as: Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Lang Son, Thai Nguyen, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, Bac Kan, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Ha Nam, Hanoi.

High risk of flash floods, landslides in the following provinces: Lang Son (11 districts), Bac Kan (6 districts), Thai Nguyen (9 districts), Bac Giang (8 districts), Vinh Phuc (5 districts), Hoa Binh (11 districts), Phu Tho (9 districts), Tuyen Quang (6 districts), Yen Bai (9 districts), Son La (8 districts), Lai Chau (3 districts), Lao Cai (4 districts).

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting added that due to the influence of storm No. 3, Yen Bai experienced very heavy rain, with total rainfall ranging from 100-250mm, especially over 400mm in some places (Tram Tau district, Van Chan district). The water level of Ngoi Thia and Ngoi Hut rivers fluctuated above alert level 2; Thao river in Yen Bai was at alert level 1.

In addition, due to the influence of the tropical convergence zone through the Northern region connecting with the circulation of the low pressure area weakened by storm No. 3, from the night of September 8 to September 11, the Yen Bai region continued to have moderate rain, heavy rain, and in some places very heavy rain with total rainfall ranging from 150-300mm, with some places over 400mm.

Floods have occurred on rivers in Yen Bai, the flood peaks of small rivers such as Ngoi Thia and Ngoi Hut rivers have reached alert level 2-3 and above alert level 3; Thao river in Yen Bai has risen above alert level 3. There is a risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers and streams, urban areas, especially in the districts of Luc Yen, Van Yen, Tran Yen, Yen Binh, and Yen Bai city.

Soil moisture in the entire province is at a saturated level, flash floods and landslides are being warned at a very high level and will continue to be maintained in the next 24 hours./.
