Change the habit of using "market goods"

For about 2 years now, Ms. Tran Thi Bich Huyen (Diem Dien village, Tam Tien, Nui Thanh) has switched to using some food products labeled as local OCOP products.

Ms. Huyen said that when the Tam Tien OCOP Sales Point (belonging to the Nui Thanh Agricultural and Fishery Cooperative) opened, she bought some local specialty products to try.

The quality of food products produced by local OCOP entities is good and packaged in clean packaging, which has won Ms. Huyen's trust.

“Rice, cooking oil, fish cakes… are quite delicious when they retain their traditional flavor and are packaged and certified by the authorities, so I feel more secure than products without packaging or labels in the market. The fact that the price is a little more expensive than products sold in the market also makes many people in rural areas hesitate when choosing. However, food safety is paramount, so always choose OCOP products to protect the health of your family,” said Ms. Tran Thi Bich Huyen.

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lai (Tho Tan village, Tam Ngoc, Tam Ky city) has also gradually switched to buying some OCOP products for daily use. Of which, bottled fish sauce products from businesses and cooperatives in Tam Thanh have been her family's top choice in recent years.

In addition, Ms. Lai's family also supports local OCOP products such as Huynh My black sesame rice paper (Tam Ngoc), coconut cakes from establishments in Tam Ky and essential oils from Tien Phuoc, Bac Tra My...

“Previously, I used to order fish sauce by the liter from some traditional fish sauce makers in Tam Thanh. But now, at Co.opmart supermarket, there are shelves displaying convenient bottled fish sauce products, which are also local OCOP products, so I trust them. These products are produced using traditional methods, so compared to industrial fish sauce products, they are more delicious and rich,” said Ms. Lai.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly (Tam Ky City), the trend of young people is to shop through e-commerce platforms for household products, fashion, etc. However, the group of young housewives will choose local specialties, labeled from traditional craft villages because of the psychology of using quality products at not too expensive prices. "The healthy trend of using food and medicinal products produced from local facilities is preferred by young people" - Ms. Ly said.

Sales growth

Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh - Director of Nui Thanh Agricultural - Fishery Cooperative said that Tam Tien OCOP Sales Point, in addition to organizing sales, also has the task of promoting the OCOP program and OCOP products to the people.

In addition to putting 4 OCOP products of Tam Tien commune on the shelves, the store also sells 30 types of OCOP products, agricultural products of Quang Nam. Bird's nest products, anchovy cakes, and sausages with OCOP certification are the 3 best-selling products of the store in recent years. The average monthly revenue of the store is about 700 thousand VND.

“During the recent Tet holiday, people trusted and supported OCOP products to make gift baskets and use them during Tet, so the store's revenue increased by about 30%. In addition, in response to the program "Vietnamese people prioritize using Vietnamese goods", Tam Tien OCOP Point of Sale signed a contract with Co.opmart Tam Ky Supermarket to sell Select brand products, and coordinated with the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Tam Tien commune to organize a propaganda session on local OCOP products and high-quality Vietnamese goods" - Mr. Nguyen Tien Manh said.

According to the representative of Co.opmart Tam Ky Supermarket, after 5 years of implementing the OCOP program, the supermarket has signed contracts with 20 suppliers with 60 products across the province.

Ms. Tran Thi Nhu Lai - Director of Co.opmart Tam Ky informed that since 2020, the unit has built a separate booth for Quang Nam's OCOP products so that customers can easily recognize and choose to buy products.

In the early stages, OCOP products on the shelves were still quite unfamiliar to customers. However, in the last 3 years, with improvements in packaging, designs, barcodes and product information on the packaging have been standardized and implemented in accordance with regulations.

Every year, Co.opmart Tam Ky supermarket organizes exhibition fairs, information communication and coordinates with other entities to organize promotional programs, promote and introduce OCOP products in major promotional programs such as Proud of Vietnamese goods, supermarket birthday.

Through these programs, consumers have better identified OCOP products. Quang Nam's typical products are chosen by families to buy.

During the recent Tet holiday, some new products were introduced to the supermarket but were greatly supported by customers such as Quang noodles, Huong Hue dried pho, Moon cake, and ginger balls from QNaFarm. In particular, Ngoc Lan fish sauce was chosen by companies this year to be included in Tet gift baskets to care for employees, so it had the highest sales.

“Sales of Bao Tam pure vegetable oil products reached over 26 million VND, Bao Linh coconut cakes reached nearly 20 million VND and Ngoc Lan fish sauce reached nearly 94 million VND… Total sales of OCOP products in the food and consumer sectors sold through Co.opmart Tam Ky during Tet reached nearly 250 million VND”
