Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dua, born in 1989, My Thanh Bac commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province has 3 children. However, the second child named Dang Thi Tuyet T. (8 years old) unfortunately has many congenital malformations such as: congenital heart disease, double kidneys and slow psychomotor development.

Due to prolonged illness, baby T. had to be hospitalized many times and his health was increasingly deteriorating. Although he was 8 years old, he only weighed over 20kg. Ms. Dua's family faced many difficulties. Both she and her husband were workers and had to work hard to make ends meet when baby T. was born seriously ill.

Recently, after a night of high fever, convulsions, cyanosis, and foaming at the mouth, baby T.'s condition took a turn for the worse, with septic shock due to sepsis and severe pneumonia.

The baby was then transferred from Cai Lay Regional General Hospital to the Pediatric Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning Department (Tien Giang General Hospital). After 11 days of intensive treatment with mechanical ventilation, vasopressors, antibiotics, nutritional infusions and tube feeding, the baby overcame the critical stage.

Doctor Vo Nhat Thuong takes care of baby T., Ms. Dua's child.

Doctor Vo Nhut Thuong, Department of Pediatric Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning, said that as of September 24, baby T. had been treated at the department for a total of 32 days. Currently, his health condition has stabilized, he can breathe and eat on his own again and is continuing to receive care and treatment from doctors for severe malnutrition.

This recovery is a great joy for the family and medical team, demonstrating T.'s perseverance in overcoming the disease and the dedication of the doctors and nurses who have always been by his side, taking care of him every second, every minute.

Although the family faced many difficulties in terms of finances and the child's health, Ms. Dua always had a noble spirit of sharing. After baby T. overcame the critical condition, Ms. Dua not only devoted all her love to her child but also paid special attention to other pediatric patients in the department.

She realized that the newborns in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit needed woolen hats to keep their heads warm and to better secure the oxygen breathing tube. Ms. Dua proactively asked the nurses to measure the head circumference of each baby and knitted woolen hats herself, day and night, to fit different weights of 1-3kg.

Wearing a wool hat helps keep your baby's head warm and makes it easier for the doctor to take care of him.

These wool hats are not only practical items to help keep newborn babies warm, but also a heart of love shared between fathers and mothers in the same situation of taking care of their children at the hospital.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Dua confided: "After my child was discharged from the hospital, I also spent my free time at home to continue sewing wool hats to give to newborn babies at the hospital.

Although the value of each hat is not much. But during the time taking care of her child at the hospital, she felt the pain and anxiety of the father and mother when their child got sick. Each hat given to the children, I hope it is a spiritual medicine to help the children overcome their illness, and the parents will be less worried about their children.

Dr. Vo Nhut Thuong shared: “Ms. Dua's dedication and sincere feelings have inspired the entire Pediatric Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department, creating a warm and compassionate atmosphere in the stressful environment of caring for mostly critically ill pediatric patients in the department.

The Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning would like to thank Ms. Dua and her family for their dedication, not only to other pediatric patients but also for being a shining example of overcoming personal difficulties to spread love to the community.

Talking to us, Dr. Do Quang Thanh, Deputy Director of Tien Giang General Hospital said: “We were very moved to know that while Ms. Dua was at the hospital, taking care of her child who was being treated at the Pediatric Intensive Care and Anti-Poison Department, she took the time to knit small and very small woolen hats by hand, suitable for premature and underweight newborns who were being treated for serious illnesses, to wear to keep the children warm.

These wool hats are hard to find on the market because they have to be flexible enough to be suitable and convenient for feeding, IV, and daily hygiene of children.

This is a meaningful and practical activity. Most importantly, it demonstrates the hearts of mothers and their boundless love for their children. This activity is also a spiritual medicine, spreading love, helping mothers whose children are being treated at the hospital to always be optimistic and also contributing to the care and treatment of children to help them recover quickly.
