Vietnam team has a plan to play Indonesia
Before the important match with Indonesia at the AFF Cup 2024, Quang Hai affirmed: "The Vietnamese team is preparing well and together we will aim for the best result for the match against Indonesia."
The last time the Vietnamese team faced Indonesia was at the end of March 2024, at My Dinh Stadium, in the match of the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia. At that time, Quang Hai was not given the opportunity to play, and Coach Troussier's team suffered a 0-3 defeat against the team from the archipelago. When asked about Indonesia's squad at the two times, Quang Hai said: "In the most recent match against Indonesia, I did not play. However, in my opinion, each squad has different strengths and weaknesses. I only focus on the upcoming match. The Vietnamese team has a plan to achieve the best result against Indonesia."

“I don’t know if I look smaller than before, but I see many things bigger. That is, the Vietnamese team is more determined and focused on this tournament. The whole team needs to show solidarity and determination for each match to be able to achieve good results. In the past few days, the Vietnamese team has been training comfortably and receiving great affection from the people of Phu Tho. We will try our best to give to the fans. I think there is no difference when training and competing in Phu Tho and Hanoi,” the midfielder born in 1997 added.
Quang Hai in the starting lineup?
Quang Hai used to be the brightest star of Vietnamese football. When he was only 21 years old, he made a great contribution to the Vietnamese team winning the AFF Cup (2018) after a long 10-year wait. In this year's tournament, the midfielder currently playing for the Hanoi Police Club is expected to repeat what he did 6 years ago.
In the opening match against Laos on December 9, Quang Hai sat on the bench and was put on the field from the 60th minute (replacing Doan Ngoc Tan). Not long after entering the field, the 27-year-old midfielder left his mark with a delicate assist for Nguyen Van Toan to score, raising the score to 3-0 for the Vietnamese team.
Quang Hai contributed 1 assist (for Van Toan to score) in the opening match of the Vietnam team against Laos.
In the important match against Indonesia in the third round of Group B, Quang Hai is expected to be a key player in the Vietnamese team, and can make a difference to help coach Kim Sang-sik's team win all 3 points. It is not too much to say that Quang Hai is the type of player who can decide the outcome of a match. According to commentator Ngo Quang Tung, the starting lineup of the Vietnamese team when facing Indonesia will likely have a few changes compared to the match against Laos: "The change may come from the central midfield position. Depending on which tactical formation coach Kim Sang-sik uses, 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, there will be different personnel options."
Also according to commentator Quang Tung, Quang Hai will likely be an important link for the Vietnamese team when playing against Indonesia. “Playing against Indonesia is more difficult than playing against Laos, so the squad also needs to be better. If the Vietnamese team plays with a 3-5-2 formation, Quang Hai will play highest in midfield. As for the 3-4-3 formation, many people think that the combination of Quang Hai and Hoang Duc is the best at the moment,” Mr. Tung analyzed.
