Vietnamese beauties 'diligently' compete in beauty pageants

The explosion of beauty pageants in Vietnam has not only led to a shortage of contestants, but many girls who participate in beauty pageants are also running shows. Just coming out of a beauty pageant, the girls are already preparing for other competitions; not to mention many beauties who try their hand at two contests in the same year.

At the Miss Vietnam National Contest that has just started, the audience can easily recognize familiar faces. Among them, Vu My Ngan is a name that attracts attention not only because of her "huge" height of 1.82 m but also because she tried her hand at Miss Vietnam 2020 or Miss Universe Vietnam 2022. Nguyen Thi Diem is also considered a "familiar person" because she entered the top 5 of Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2022. After that, the Cao Bang beauty continued to "fight" at Miss Grand Vietnam 2023, entering the top 20 finalists.

Previously, many Vietnamese beauties also "diligently" sought opportunities in beauty contests. Typically, Bui Ly Thien Huong competed twice in Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 and 2024 after entering the top 16 of Miss Universe Vietnam 2022. Similarly, Nguyen Thi Le Nam also sought opportunities for herself in Miss Grand Vietnam 2024, but only stopped at the top 15. Before that, she participated in Miss Universe Vietnam 2022 and Miss Universe Vietnam 2023.

In reality, participating in a beauty contest requires contestants to invest time, effort and money. However, not every girl who continuously registers will get "sweet results". Having experience in a number of contests before being crowned Miss Ethnic Vietnam 2022, beauty Nong Thuy Hang said that each contestant has a different investment depending on the conditions and goals. "Preparing costumes, learning more performance skills, behavior, makeup, and even physical training are all important factors. A thorough investment not only helps to have a beautiful, professional image but also brings confidence when standing in front of the audience and judges," she said.

Sharing the same view, model Le Thu Trang revealed that financial investment depends on each person's budget. Some contestants spend hundreds of millions of dong on a beauty pageant, but others do not spend too much because they are supported by colleagues and acquaintances. "You should invest in learning skills because it will help you in the long journey ahead, not just in the contest," the Hanoi beauty concluded from her experience in beauty pageants.

Compared to many other beauties, Bui Quynh Hoa, Le Hoang Phuong or Huong Ly are luckier when they get sweet results after a "diligent" journey of beauty contests. At Miss Universe Vietnam 2023, Bui Quynh Hoa was named for the highest position, while Huong Ly won the first runner-up position. In the same year, Le Hoang Phuong competed in Miss Grand Vietnam and won convincingly.

Challenges and opportunities

It takes a lot of effort and time, but what makes the beauties "hard-working and active" in beauty contests? It cannot be denied that the journey to compete in a beauty contest is a great opportunity for girls to learn and gain experience. Above all, it is also a way for their image to get closer to the audience if they have an outstanding performance. "In addition to the award, title or the opportunity to "bring the bell to strike foreign lands", a girl who comes to a beauty contest also has the opportunity to be known by more people. That greatly supports their future career", Le Thu Trang expressed.

"It is legitimate for a girl to return to the race to seek a title. Each stage will give us different experiences, the important thing is what your purpose is. If you want to step into the international arena, training domestically is a natural thing. Each time like that will create the qualities of a warrior. However, in each competition, you also have to prove your transformation," said Mr. Phuc Nguyen, a beauty pageant training expert.

It is not difficult to see that in a beauty contest, old faces often have more outstanding performance skills. Besides, with the experience they have, they prepare mentally, set clear goals for themselves and have specific strategies to stand out from other candidates. "When you have participated in beauty contests, you also have relationships to support you. Typically, asking for advice on building your image, borrowing costumes to save money," Nong Thuy Hang revealed.

Along with the advantages, these girls also have to face many challenges, such as it will be difficult to see the freshness when performing or struggling in the process of change. In particular, the higher the audience's expectations, the more the beauty's courage is required to overcome the pressure and maintain her form in each round. Because if she does not do well, receiving mixed opinions or being "turned away" is inevitable.

According to expert Phuc Nguyen, to achieve high results in a beauty contest, "knowing yourself" is necessary. He advised: "No one will blame you if you participate in 1 or 10 contests, but you must know what you have and what weapons you have so that you do not appear obscurely. If there is no change but continuously appearing in contests, it is not advisable."
