Investment fraud has been assessed by the Information Security Department as one of the six hot spots for online fraud in Vietnam's cyberspace.
According to the Department of Information Security, the case of Pho Duc Nam - TikToker Mr Pips luring victims to participate in online investment activities to defraud and appropriate more than 5,200 billion VND shows the dangers of financial investment fraud traps.
Accordingly, Mr Pips's fraud ring with nearly 2,000 employees, used many Zalo, Telegram, and Viber accounts to set up investment groups, post articles by financial experts, and impersonate them to lure victims.
Specifically: the group of subjects used tricks to lure customers to trade many times with low amounts of money, make profits and withdraw money, then they enticed the victims to continue increasing their trading capital. During that process, the subjects provided false information related to the investment floor.
When participants are financially unable, the group intervenes in the system to appropriate the participants' money.
In addition, the trading platforms do not have clear operating licenses, promise too high profits and require continuous deposits. When the investment loses, the subjects will convince the victims to deposit more money to recover.
The Information Security Department said that the financial investment tricks of subjects like Mr Pips have been warned many times. However, many people are greedy for immediate profits and gullible, so they are still lured.
Accordingly, the Information Security Department recommends that people absolutely do not trust high-profit investment invitations; be cautious when participating in closed groups and community groups without verifying information. When participating in project investment, it is necessary to clearly understand the organization or individual calling for investment (operating license, related certificates as well as other users).
