With their enthusiasm and responsibility, the elderly in Quang Ninh province have made constant efforts to preserve, conserve and promote the unique traditional cultural values of the locality. From there, not only enriching spiritual life, but also contributing to preserving the priceless "assets" that their ancestors have painstakingly built and passed on to future generations.
Keep the fire burning
In the flow of traditional culture of the nation, each generation contributes its efforts and intelligence to preserve, enrich and transmit. In today's modern life, the elderly with life experience, understanding of history, traditions and local culture are still diligently taking on the role of organizers, arrangers, and practitioners of rituals, cultural and religious activities, participating in the restoration, performing arts, folk games, and traditional cuisine at festivals, and at the same time being the ones to transmit and guide the younger generations to continue to promote.

On every occasion of traditional festivals such as: Duc Ong Tran Quoc Nghien Temple Festival (Ha Long), Cua Ong Temple Festival (Cam Pha), Xuong Dong Festival, Bach Dang Festival (Quang Yen), Luc Na Communal House Festival (Binh Lieu), Duc Ong Hoang Can Temple Festival (Tien Yen)... it is not difficult to see the image of local elderly people actively and enthusiastically participating, taking on many important tasks contributing to fully recreating the long-standing cultural characteristics.
Ms. Dinh Thi Luan, President of the Elderly Association of Cua Ong Ward (Cam Pha City), shared: For the elderly, participating in preserving and maintaining culture is both a responsibility and a joy and pride. Therefore, the elderly of the ward are always the core force participating in the tasks from ceremonies, processions, and art performances... at the Cua Ong Temple Festival. In order for the traditional ceremonies and rituals to take place properly, the elderly, men and women, despite their advanced age, are all enthusiastic, passionate, and excited to practice thoroughly with the desire to recreate the culture in a truly standard and solemn manner.

To "light the fire" for traditional cultural values to develop and last forever, more than anyone else, many elderly people, especially artisans, are still playing the role of a connecting thread to multiply the pride, spirit and responsibility of the young generation in preserving the unique cultural values of the nation.
Without blackboards, white chalk, or specific lesson plans, folk artists are like teachers who quietly convey and guide the young people in each village, hamlet, and hamlet, thereby nurturing and spreading the love of traditional culture. Therefore, classes on dum singing (Quang Yen), ancient cheo singing (Dong Trieu), sewing and embroidering ethnic costumes of the Dao Thanh Y and Dao Thanh Phan, the Dao people's cap sac ritual (Binh Lieu, Tien Yen), then singing of the Tay people and soong co singing of the San Chi people (Tien Yen, Binh Lieu), hat nha to, hat - dance at the communal house (Dam Ha, Hai Ha, Van Don, Mong Cai) ... for young people are always lively and bustling every weekend, summer vacation or before festivals.
Quang Ninh currently has 76 artisans who have been awarded the title of Vietnamese Folk Artisan. Among them, there are 2 People's Artisans (Mrs. Dang Thi Tu - Dam Ha district and Mr. Le Duc Chan - Quang Yen town) and 38 Meritorious Artisans. These artisans are the big trees who have contributed to the recognition and elevation of traditional cultural forms, becoming cultural heritages of the nation and humanity.

Mr. To Dinh Hieu, Director of the Communication - Culture Center of Binh Lieu district, shared: Born and raised in Binh Lieu, I am extremely proud that the Then ritual and Then singing of the Tay people in general, including the Tay people of Binh Lieu, have become cultural heritages. The Then ritual of the Tay people in Quang Ninh, of which Binh Lieu is a typical representative, has been recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2013. In 2019, the Heritage of Then singing practice of the Tay, Nung, and Thai people in Vietnam was officially listed by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. And I am even more proud when I am fortunate to have the elders, men, women, and artisans of the locality who are dedicated to teaching the quintessence of this cultural heritage, so that the younger generation can continue to develop and contribute to introducing and promoting the beauty of the homeland's culture to all regions.
Heavy heart to preserve national cultural heritage
Currently, the province has 148,405 elderly people participating in activities at 177 grassroots Elderly Associations. Therefore, the preservation and promotion of traditional cultural values of ethnic groups in the province are always of interest to the elderly and they play a core role.

Mr. Pham Hung Son, Head of the Provincial Elderly Association Representative Board, said: In recent years, the elderly in localities have actively encouraged young people to establish cultural and artistic clubs in villages and residential groups; restore and maintain singing, speaking, and costumes to teach their children and grandchildren. As “tall trees” with important roles in family and society, the elderly in the province have been promoting their intelligence, life experience, actively and effectively implementing patriotic emulation movements, becoming shining examples. Thereby, contributing to connecting, educating, and nurturing the younger generation with love and responsibility for preserving and conserving, so that the source of national culture will continue to flow today and in the future.
