Along with the launch of new operating systems for products like the iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, and Mac, CEO Tim Cook introduced Vision Pro at WWDC 2023. “This is the first Apple product that you look through, not at,” he said.
Recently, according to a report by The Information, Apple has focused on cheaper models and paused development of the second-generation Vision Pro.
Many believe that Apple will split the Vision product line into two variants: a Pro model and a cheaper standard model. Apple is said to have de-prioritized the virtual reality headset models and gradually assigned fewer employees to the project.
Apple has reportedly begun work on a cheaper Vision device codenamed N109 for 2022 with an expected price of $1,600. However, the company is still looking to reduce the price without sacrificing many features, so the device is rumored to appear in late 2025.
The Information says it's still possible Apple will continue developing the Vision Pro 2 headset at some point in the future.
