According to The Information, Apple has decided to temporarily stop developing the second-generation Vision Pro virtual reality glasses, or Vision Pro 2. Instead, they are adjusting their strategy to focus on a cheaper mixed reality (MR) glasses, called N109.
Apple has adjusted its development plan for the second generation of Vision Pro glasses
Apple’s goal is to launch a low-cost Vision headset that will cost around $1,600, similar to the current top-end iPhone. However, the company has struggled to keep the price down without sacrificing too many features, and the expected launch date has been pushed back to late 2025.
Information from MacRumors also said that, even though it is a cheap version, Vision glasses will still use the same high-end screen as the Pro version. However, Apple will cut some components such as the camera, speakers and strap design to reduce production costs.
This shows that Apple values providing technology products at prices more suitable for the majority of consumers, in order to increase competition in the rapidly growing virtual reality glasses market.
