Dong Son ancient village currently has an area of ​​nearly 4km2, including 330 households with 1,300 people living. People here mainly live on farming. Although life is hard, they are always warm and hospitable. The elderly always teach their children and grandchildren to try to maintain a humane and united lifestyle.

Dong Son ancient village is a place where the typical elements of a traditional Vietnamese village converge. This is also the first land where Dong Son bronze drums were found and is the place associated with the name of a Dong Son culture. Through the ups and downs of history, the destruction of war and time, Dong Son ancient village still basically preserves its material cultural values ​​with the characteristics of a North Central Vietnamese village. That is the village structure, the architecture bears the mark of an ancient Vietnamese village.

Dong Son ancient village still preserves many memories of the ancient countryside.

According to the elders in the village, in 1924, farmer Nguyen Van Lam in the village while fishing on the banks of the Ma River found an ancient bronze drum. After that, the French excavated the ancient village of Dong Son and found many other valuable antiques. In 1934, Austrian researcher R. Heine Geldern (R. Hen-Gien-don) proposed to recognize the "Dong Son civilization" as a typical civilization of Vietnam in the early period of nation building and to this day, the name of Dong Son village has become the name of a world-famous archaeological culture - Dong Son Culture.

Brick walls, mossy stones or even the roadbed here are still preserved, are the beauty of an ancient village. Dong Son ancient village is voted as one of the 10 most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam, attracting tourists by its peaceful, quiet and ancient beauty. This place is more beautiful because it is located among majestic mountains and hills, facing the poetic Ma River with the legendary Ham Rong Bridge crossing it. Behind the village is Canh Tien mountain, in front are fertile, green rice fields as far as the eye can see.

The entrance to Dong Son ancient village is in the shape of a fish bone, the main road in the middle of the village, many small branches branching out in different directions called alleys. The most interesting thing about this village is the alleys named with the meaning of human dignity. Each alley has its own name and meaning: "Humanity - Intelligence - Courage - Righteousness".

From the beginning of the village, following the main road a few hundred meters, passing through the majestic "Tri" gate with many traces of time, you will reach Mr. Luong Trong Due's house - one of 13 ancient houses that still retain the typical architectural features of the 19th century.

The ancient house was built at the beginning of the Nguyen Dynasty more than 200 years ago. According to the story of Mr. Luong Trong Due's family members, during the resistance war against the US, the house was bombed, causing the back roof to collapse and the door to be damaged, but it was repaired. Since its construction, the house has undergone three renovations, but the architectural features and material structure of the house are still relatively intact, with the desire to preserve a typical ancient cultural space of the North Central Delta.

As a child born and raised in Dong Son land, Mrs. Duong Thi Cuc (80 years old) shared that during the years of resistance, bombs and bullets damaged all the houses in the village. Later, the people tried to repair them to preserve the material and cultural values ​​with the characteristics of the village.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Director of the Center for Historical Research and Cultural Heritage Conservation of Thanh Hoa, Dong Son ancient village is an ancient village with a relatively intact structure with the world-famous Dong Son relic site, with the scenic spots of Dragon Mountain, Fairy Cave, Ma River, mountains, caves and relics associated with attractive folk legends and typical revolutionary relics such as the Ham Rong victory in the resistance war against the destructive war of the American invaders.

In recent years, authorities at all levels have paid much attention to preserving, conserving and promoting the value of Dong Son Ancient Village. The project to preserve and promote the heritage value of Dong Son Ancient Village, Ham Rong Ward, Thanh Hoa City associated with tourism development will create a basis for activities to preserve and promote the cultural heritage value of Dong Son Ancient Village; contribute to honoring traditional culture, beautifying the homeland, the country, an ancient and long-standing countryside of Thanh land, meeting the aspirations and religious needs of the majority of people in the village and neighboring communes. Thereby, creating a cultural, spiritual, tourist and entertainment destination for the people of Thanh Hoa City and visitors from all over.

Over time, we can see that the history of Dong Son ancient village is closely linked to the ups and downs of the history of Thanh Hoa land. Evidence from the underground of Dong Son ancient village such as agricultural tools, weapons, pottery, unique jewelry, etc. have marked the periods and dynasties in the history of the nation, proving the formation, continuous development and creativity of the Vietnamese people in Thanh Hoa land.

With the unique characteristics of an ancient village located right in the heart of Thanh Hoa city, Dong Son has become an increasingly attractive destination for tourists.
