During his one-day visit (June 30), Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will meet Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

According to a June 29 statement from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, the two countries "share a historic and friendly relationship, marked by frequent exchanges of high-level visits. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Qatar on February 14-15, meeting with His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani."

In that context, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's visit will be an opportunity for the two sides to "review various aspects of bilateral relations including politics, trade, investment, energy, security, culture and people-to-people exchanges as well as regional and international issues of mutual concern".

During his visit to Doha, Prime Minister Modi thanked His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his concern for the over 800,000-strong Indian community in Qatar and conveyed New Delhi's commitment to further expanding and deepening bilateral cooperation with the country.

In response, the Emir of Qatar appreciated India's role as a valuable partner in the Gulf region. He also acknowledged the contribution of the Indian diaspora to the development of Qatar and its enthusiastic participation in international events held in the Middle Eastern country.

India-Qatar bilateral trade turnover reached nearly 20 billion USD.

According to ANI, this will be External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar's third foreign trip in the third term of the Narendra Modi-led government. He had earlier visited Sri Lanka (June 20) and the UAE (June 23).
