Acceptance of results of implementing medicinal plant planting model under forest canopy

BTO-On November 24, the Provincial Forest Protection Department inspected and accepted the results of the implementation of the medicinal plant planting model under the forest canopy (for species with a consumer market) in 2023.

The results of the inspection and acceptance show that, up to now, the model has completed planting and caring for medicinal plants under the forest canopy with an area of ​​1.8 hectares in accordance with the approved design and technical measures. Including 1 hectare of Sam Bo Chinh under the natural forest canopy in Sub-area 120C, Phan Dien commune, the plants grow and develop well, the survival rate is 90% after 1 month of planting, 85% after 6 months of planting; 0.1 hectare of yam under the natural forest canopy in Sub-area 300, Thuan Quy commune, belonging to the forest area of ​​Ta Cu Nature Reserve Management Board, the plants are currently growing and developing very well, the survival rate is 95% after 1 month of planting, 90% after 6 months of planting; 0.1 ha of green lim mushrooms under the natural forest canopy belonging to the Song Mong-Ka Pet Forest Protection Management Board, in sub-area 257, My Thanh commune, Ham Thuan Nam, are currently growing quite well, reaching a survival rate of 90% after 1 month of planting, decreasing to 85% after 6 months of planting. Particularly, 1.5 ha of yellow camellia planted in the Duc Linh Forest Protection Management Board is expected to be accepted on November 28.

Through the model, the Provincial Forest Protection Department said that green lim mushroom embryos on rubber wood can produce mushrooms in 2-3 cycles (each cycle is about 3 months) when cared for with enough moisture and coverage. Therefore, the unit proposed that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development consider allocating funds for care and irrigation in 2024 to continue implementing the model.

It is known that the model has a total budget of 500 million VND from the forestry career fund, invested by the Forest Protection Department. Up to now, the total budget has been disbursed 300 million VND, reaching 60% of the total approved budget. Currently, the unit is continuing to implement the remaining items such as protection, product harvesting, building technical planting instructions, etc.

The project aims to analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of the model and the prospects for replication for households contracted to protect forests in the province. Thereby raising awareness of local people about sustainable forest management, protection and development; creating jobs, increasing income from non-timber forest products for people. At the same time, contributing to restructuring production in the forestry sector in accordance with advantages, market demand, adapting to climate change in the spirit of Resolution No. 05-NQ/TU dated September 10, 2021 of the Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee on developing modern, sustainable, high-value-added agriculture.
