According to Mr. Pham Thai Binh (HCMC Cultural Center), People's Artist Nguyen Hong Oanh passed away at 9:00 p.m. on February 13 (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year).
People's Artist Nguyen Hong Oanh passed away due to cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 69.
Ms. Nguyen Hong Oanh is an artist who lives a sincere, simple life close to everyone, always thinking about ways to bring traditional music and cultural heritage closer to young people.
People's Artist Nguyen Hong Oanh (birth name Nguyen Hong Vanh) was born in 1955, in Thach Lien commune, Thach Ha district, Ha Tinh province.
She is the third child in a family of eight children, many generations of doctors who have treated and saved people. Her father used to work at the Traditional Medicine Association of Thach Ha district, her mother was a farmer. Both of them loved and were passionate about Vi Giam folk songs and the Tale of Kieu.

Thanks to that, her childhood was spent in a space of folk culture. In 1974, after graduating from Ly Tu Trong High School, she studied statistics, salary policy and worked as an accountant at the People's Committee of Thach Ha district.
In 1981, she married a man from Thach Lac, a liberation army soldier; then she followed her husband to the South (Tien Giang province) to work.
In 1989, she and her two children (1 girl, 1 boy) moved to Ho Chi Minh City to start a business. In Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Hong Oanh began participating in social work, participating in many clubs and bringing her singing voice and folk songs to the people of Ho Chi Minh City.
In 2016, with the support of the Nghe Tinh Association in Ho Chi Minh City, the Southern Nghe Tinh Vi and Giam Folk Song Club was born.
Under the leadership of artist Hong Oanh, the club quickly began operating effectively, and was regularly invited by Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) and Ho Chi Minh City People's Radio (VOH) to participate in major programs, creating a widespread movement of listening to and singing Vi and Giam folk songs in the city named after Uncle Ho.
With 35 members who are artisans from Nghe An, Ha Tinh and other regions, after 6 years of establishment, the club still maintains regular activities once a week.
In addition to television and radio programs, on average each month, the Club performs two folk music programs at cultural events in the city.
Artist Hong Oanh has also organized the production of a CD set of Kieu poetry sung in the style of 3 regions, performed by herself and famous artists from all over the country. She has also published 4 poetry collections and 1 book about festivals.
Notably, the poetry collection “The Road to Nghe An” is 2,000 pages thick, with about 1,800 poems by over 600 typical authors from Nghe An and Ha Tinh.
On March 4, 2022, in Ho Chi Minh City, Meritorious Artisan Nguyen Hong Oanh was awarded the title of People's Artisan by the President.
