Banking sector launches Tet tree planting festival and joins hands to eliminate 1,000 temporary and dilapidated houses

On the morning of February 8, 2025, the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) organized a program to return to the source and plant trees at the historical relic site of the banking sector in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province. The working delegation was led by comrade Nguyen Thi Hong, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Governor of the SBV.

Comrade Dao Minh Tu - Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Permanent Deputy Governor of the State Bank, Chairman of the Vietnam Banking Trade Union said that it has become a tradition that every Saturday of the first working week after the Lunar New Year holiday, the Party Committee and the State Bank's leadership organize a program to return to the source at the historical relic site of the country and the industry in Son Duong district, Tuyen Quang province to offer incense and flowers to express gratitude to generations of leaders and officials of the banking industry who have made great contributions to the birth and development of the industry and the country; offer incense and flowers at Thong Thien tower to pray for heaven and earth to bless the country with national peace, people's safety, favorable weather; the banking industry is determined to overcome all difficulties and challenges, excellently completing all tasks assigned by the Party, State and people. At the same time, organize the Tet tree planting program "Forever grateful to Uncle Ho" for officials, union members, and employees of the banking industry to promote the good tradition every time Tet comes, Spring comes according to the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh. This year, the Board of Directors of the State Bank of Vietnam and the Vietnam Banking Trade Union also have another very practical and meaningful activity, which is to launch a program for officials, union members, and employees of the banking industry to contribute 1 day's salary to support the program "Join hands to eliminate 1,000 temporary and dilapidated houses" nationwide in response to the Prime Minister's call.

Permanent Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam, Chairman of the Vietnam Banking Trade Union Dao Minh Tu launched two programs.

Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Dao Minh Tu emphasized: “Housing is one of the essential needs of people, one of the factors contributing to the development of the country's human resources. Taking care of housing for the people has always been a concern of our Party and State and is identified as a social issue, a key task of social security and sustainable poverty reduction”.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu, on behalf of the SBV's Board of Directors and the Vietnam Banking Trade Union, called on all officials, union members and employees in the entire banking system with the highest spirit and sense of responsibility to actively participate in the Tet Tree Planting Program "Forever grateful to Uncle Ho" and the Program of planting 1 million trees launched by the Prime Minister to contribute to greening the earth, preventing natural disasters, saltwater intrusion, and responding to climate change. At the same time, actively support at least 1 day's salary to join the Banking industry in "Joining hands to eliminate 1,000 temporary and dilapidated houses" nationwide, responding to the 350-day peak period of successful implementation of the Program "The whole country joins hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" in 2025 under the direction of the Prime Minister.

Governor Nguyen Thi Hong hopes that all union members, officials, civil servants, public employees, and workers in the banking sector will actively participate in these two meaningful programs.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam Nguyen Thi Hong emphasized: These are two very meaningful programs for the banking industry and the country, and are practical activities for union members and employees of the banking industry to continue to promote the spirit of shared responsibility to the community and society, to accompany the Government in implementing national target programs and strive to achieve the goal of basically eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses by 2025. In order for the program to be launched effectively, she requested the heads and chairmen of trade unions of units in the whole industry to promote their exemplary responsibility and pioneering spirit in organizing and implementing in their units and thoroughly grasp, motivate, encourage, propagate and mobilize cadres, union members and employees in their units to actively participate and respond to the above two programs. He hoped that all union members, officials, civil servants and employees of the Banking sector would actively participate in these two meaningful programs, contributing to environmental protection, combating climate change and promoting the spirit and fine traditions of our nation and the Banking sector in social security work, "the whole leaves cover the torn leaves; the less torn leaves cover the more torn leaves", leaving no one behind.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong emphasized: 2025 is of special significance, a year of acceleration and breakthrough to reach the finish line to successfully implement the 5-year socio-economic development plan 2021-2025, a year of many important events of the country - the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Party, the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South, the reunification of the country, the 135th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's birthday, the 80th anniversary of the founding of the country and the year of holding Party Congresses at all levels, towards the 14th National Party Congress, opening a new era - the era of striving, developing wealth, civilization and prosperity of the nation. In the context of the forecast that the world and domestic economic situation will continue to face many difficulties and challenges, I hope that all comrades, cadres, civil servants, public employees and employees of the banking sector will continue to promote more strongly their bravery, intelligence, spirit of solidarity, innovation, creativity, and professional ethics to accompany, share and strive, determined to overcome all difficulties and challenges, strive to best complete all assigned tasks, and contribute more positively to the common achievements of the country in 2025, worthy of the role and position of the banking sector as the lifeblood of the economy.

The Tet Tree Planting Program has been organized by the Banking sector since 2022 and has received positive responses from credit institutions, including Agribank. Agribank is one of the pioneers, proactively implementing the program "Agribank - One million trees, more trees, more life" with a series of meaningful activities to protect the living environment, including actively responding to tree planting. Agribank has planted trees in many localities such as: Son La, Yen Bai, Nam Dinh, Thanh Hoa, Dak Lak, Binh Duong, An Giang, Cu Chi and many other localities. In particular, Agribank has organized tree planting at 3 locations which are national historical sites: National relic site in Kim Quan commune - Yen Son district - Tuyen Quang province; Hung Temple historical site - Phu Tho and K9 Da Chong historical site - Ba Vi.

Agribank effectively implemented the movement "Agribank - One million trees, more trees, more life", persistently planting trees to contribute to greening barren land and hills; increasing green space in public areas, schools and improving air pollution in residential areas and large cities; contributing to minimizing and responding to phenomena caused by climate change, salinity intrusion, and soil erosion taking place in many localities and contributing to embellishing the landscape of memorial sites and historical relics with invaluable spiritual value to people across the country...

For the program "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses", responding to the Prime Minister's call, from April 2024 to present, the Banking Industry has committed to supporting 1,300 billion VND. The amount of support from the Banking Industry accounts for more than 16% of the total amount of support from the whole country for this program (nearly 8,000 billion VND). This result clearly demonstrates the spirit, sense of responsibility and mutual love of the Banking Industry towards social security support work in general and the movement to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses in particular.

Agribank donated 100 billion VND to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households.

With the tradition and morality of "the good leaves cover the torn leaves", "national love, compatriots' affection, love and mutual support", in recent years, implementing the policies of the Party, the State, the State Bank, Agribank has always devoted large resources to focus on caring for and improving the quality of life of the poor and people in difficult circumstances with many meaningful activities. Every time Tet comes, the entire Agribank system spends 100 billion VND to support the work of caring for the poor and policy families across the country with the wish that everyone and every family can have a happy and complete Tet. For the movement "Joining hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses" launched by the Prime Minister, Agribank has supported over 150 billion VND. Of which, Agribank supports 100 billion VND in response to the peak emulation campaign to complete the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide; supporting 20 billion VND to build and repair houses for poor and near-poor households in Hoa Binh province; 15 billion VND to build charity houses for disadvantaged households in Dak Lak province; 5 billion VND to support the program "eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses" in Lam Dong province; and in many localities across the country with a budget of tens of billions of VND...

In particular, in the early days of 2025, Agribank issued a plan to implement the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025", identifying this as one of the regular emulation movements of the entire system. Through the movement, it contributes to creating a vibrant emulation atmosphere, demonstrating the will and responsibility of all Agribank staff and employees, contributing to the banking industry's emulation to complete the goal of "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025" and at the same time, through the movement, creating a strong change in awareness and responsibility of units in the Agribank system towards poor households, near-poor households, people affected by natural disasters, climate change, supporting families of meritorious people facing housing difficulties, etc.

Affirming the brand "Bank for the community", Agribank is one of the units that are always proactive and active in social security activities. In 2024, Agribank will spend over 700 billion VND on meaningful social security activities such as: sponsoring the construction of charity houses for the poor, policy families, families in difficult circumstances; building schools, medical stations, traffic works; giving gifts to poor and near-poor households, families of war invalids and martyrs, people with meritorious services to the revolution; taking care of Vietnamese Heroic Mothers; supporting poor students to overcome difficulties and rise up in life...
