As one of the localities with the largest forestry land area in the province with 56,000 hectares, Ba Che district has stepped up propaganda and mobilized people to develop large timber and native tree plantations, making forestry a key economic sector of the locality.

Thanh Son Commune has a natural area of 11,039.73 hectares, of which forestry land is 9,836.92 hectares, forest cover rate reaches 73.85%. As a locality with the main source of income from afforestation, in recent years, implementing Action Program No. 27-CTr/HU dated January 2, 2020 of Ba Che District Party Committee on implementing Resolution No. 19-NQ/TU dated November 28, 2019 of the Provincial Party Committee on sustainable forestry development of the province to 2025, with a vision to 2030; Directive No. 02-CT/HU dated September 1, 2020 of the Ba Che District Party Committee on Strengthening the leadership and direction of the implementation of the large timber forest planting project, the project to conserve and develop some precious medicinal plants in the district and commune, the Steering Committee has been established to implement the large timber forest planting project, the project to conserve and develop some precious medicinal plants, and assigning each member of the Steering Committee and the propaganda and mobilization team to be in charge of the village.
With many forms of propaganda and mobilization, such as: Conferences; mass media systems (loudspeakers, FM clusters at village cultural houses); visual propaganda (panels, posters); propaganda on social networking sites zalo, facebook ..., has helped forest growers grasp the policies to support forestry development, register to participate and develop production plans to develop large timber forests and native trees. From 2020 to present, the commune has planted 585 hectares of large timber forests, accounting for 61% of the newly planted forest area, of which lim, lat, giổi trees are 116.4 hectares, and acacia trees are 468.6 hectares. The commune also planted 4,178 scattered forestry trees, contributing to improving the ecological environment, supplementing the source of planted forest wood to serve people's lives and economic development.
Mr. Ninh Van Nam (Khe Long Ngoai hamlet, Thanh Son commune) said: His family has 7.5 hectares of forest. Like other households in the village, his family used to mainly grow acacia trees with a 5-7 year cycle, so the income was not high. With the propaganda, partial support of tree seeds and loans, up to now, his family has converted 5.8 hectares to grow cinnamon and ironwood, and 1.7 hectares to grow Morinda officinalis. Growing large timber trees in the long term will bring higher economic benefits and protect the natural environment.
Mr. Dang Ngoc Thang, Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, said: The commune has a low starting point. when starting to implement the new rural construction program. In recent years, in addition to developing large timber plantations, the commune has directed people to intercrop medicinal plants such as cinnamon, yellow camellia, morinda officinalis... to improve economic efficiency. Thanks to that, the income of forest growers has gradually increased, in 2023 the average income reached 66.58 million VND/person, an increase of 4.98 million VND compared to 2022; it is expected to reach over 70 million VND/person by the end of 2024.

With the active participation of the Party Committee and authorities from the district to the grassroots level, from 2021 to now, the whole district has planted 1,088.98 hectares of lim, giổi, and lát forests. According to the plan, in 2024, the district will plant 3,500 hectares of forest, including 250 hectares of large timber forest. By the end of July 2024, the district planted 152 hectares, reaching 61% of the annual plan, of which Thanh Son commune planted 25 hectares; Don Dac 14.5 hectares; Luong Mong 13.2 hectares; Dap Thanh 12.3 hectares. The district also planted 255 hectares of cinnamon trees, 14.6 hectares of medicinal plants, 3,166.8 hectares of acacia and pine trees.
With the goal of becoming the economic center of forestry and medicinal plants of the province, making forestry a spearhead economic sector, Ba Che prioritizes resources, well implements investment incentive mechanisms and policies, attracts investment capital in afforestation and forest protection management, gradually socializes forestry, forms raw material areas associated with wood processing factories, and value chains in forestry production to increase added value in forestry production.
