Traveling or picnicking to see flowers in spring is now becoming a new trend. Grasping that need, many Chinese provinces and cities have promoted the exploitation of the "flower viewing economy".
Not only bringing joyful scenery to people, spring flowers are now being strongly exploited by many localities in China to create new momentum for tourism.
China Youth Daily cited data from online platform Meituan showing that the number of searches for the keyword "spring flower viewing and picnics" recently increased by more than 167% compared to last week.
Among them, the central and western regions of China such as Hubei, Sichuan and Anhui are popular destinations thanks to their unique landscapes and rich cultural and tourism activities, with the number of tickets booked for scenic spots increasing by more than 150%.
Tourists take photos with flowers in Peng'an County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, March 17.
Sina page pointed out many creative ways of doing things by localities such as the event where thousands of people enjoyed the specialty fried rice at the Wanfenglin scenic area, Guizhou; the experience of taking a train through the flower forest on the mountain in Chongqing; flying a helicopter to see rapeseed flowers in Chengdu, Sichuan, or a flower party in Kunming, Yunnan...
According to Xinhua, spring tourism has now gone beyond simply flower viewing or photography and has been upgraded to a diverse entertainment experience. The deep integration of natural landscapes with diverse forms of consumption has created a new attraction for China's "spring economy".
Sharing the same opinion, the People's Daily newspaper said that the "flower viewing economy" is creating new momentum for the combination of agriculture and tourism. The article cited the example of the small town of Mugang in Guizhou Province. Thanks to grasping the taste and switching to growing rapeseed, the locality has attracted an average of 1,000 tourists per day, and this year's flower season is expected to bring in over 50 million yuan in revenue.
This website believes that the need to see spring flowers - if well exploited and combined with new consumption scenarios - will not only help attract tourists in the short term, but also strengthen local brands, opening up sustainable directions for many industries, from agriculture, cuisine to entertainment services.
