“The restoration of the plant within the framework of the Russian nuclear energy industry is a reality and the international community can only accept it. It is impossible to transfer Zaporizhzhia or control over the plant to Ukraine or any other country,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, according to Tass news agency.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump suggested that Washington could help operate and own Ukraine's nuclear power plants.

Shortly afterwards, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced that it owned the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. “In such a case, it would be impossible to adequately ensure nuclear safety and security, as well as to resolve issues of civil liability for nuclear damage,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
In addition, the ministry affirmed that Moscow will never hand over Europe's largest nuclear power plant to Ukraine or any other country. The ministry also said that representatives of NATO member states cannot visit the Zaporizhzhia plant due to "the risk of sabotage by intelligence agencies cooperating with Kiev."
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, built by the Soviet Union, is located in Zaporizhzhia Oblast, southern Ukraine. This is one of the oblasts that Russia once declared annexed.
