Upgrading skills for thousands of technology drivers

After 3 years of implementing the cooperation program, on July 18 in Hanoi, the General Department of Vocational Education (GDNN) of the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) held a conference to summarize and evaluate the results of improving skills for the Grab Vietnam technology driver community.

At the closing ceremony, Dr. Pham Vu Quoc Binh, Deputy Director General of the General Department of Vocational Education, emphasized that improving the quality and skills of workers is an important task. To improve the skills of Vietnamese workers, close cooperation between schools, businesses and state management agencies is needed.

According to Mr. Binh, the workforce participating in technology driving in Vietnam is increasingly large. Therefore, the cooperation between the General Department of Vocational Education and Grab Vietnam in improving the skills of the technology driving team is of great significance. High-quality technology driving must achieve 5 stars. Therefore, it is necessary to promptly provide, update, and supplement knowledge and skills for the technology driving force.

The report at the conference on the results of the cooperation project (2021-2024) showed that the General Department of Vocational Education and Training and Grab Vietnam have made joint efforts to implement and concretize the goals set out in the Memorandum of Understanding, through the implementation of practical activities in the Project "Improving vocational skills for the technology driver community" within the framework of the cooperation program between the two sides.

Specifically, with the goal of improving the skills of the technology driver community during their operations as well as in daily life, based on the results of a survey on actual training needs along with practical experience, experts from the General Department have selected, standardized and completed training contents including: Code of conduct and standards for serving passengers and users; Safe driving skills; Skills for handling emergency situations; English communication skills; Skills for supporting passengers and users who are Vietnamese and international tourists; and Personal financial management skills.

Along with that, in order to improve knowledge and professional skills in teaching about training materials, the Department of Continuing Education, General Department of Vocational Education has coordinated with Grab Vietnam and experts to develop training materials for teaching staff, training experts of vocational education institutions, and training personnel at Grab Vietnam in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Department of Continuing Education (General Department of Vocational Education) also coordinated with Grab Vietnam and experts to organize online training sessions, sharing with experts on the Grab driver partner community channel about the necessary knowledge and skills in the process of operation and life. The online training sessions received more than 24,000 views; 4,700 interactions and comments on the social networking platform of the Grab driver partner community (data as of June 2024). The standardized training materials were posted on many different channels, so that the driver community in general can easily access and follow, including: Publicly posted on the data warehouse on the official website of the General Department of Vocational Education; posted on the online training platform dedicated to Grab partners - GrabAcademy. Just a short time after being posted on GrabAcademy, as of June 2024, the training materials have received more than 34,000 visits and views; 25,000 completions of quick multiple-choice questions (optional) from Grab driver partners.

In particular, based on the standardized document set, the parties have coordinated to build a series of video clips on professional skills specifically for the technology driver community. The video clip series is considered a visual, vivid, and close training tool that can easily convey messages to the technology driver community.

After implementing the activities, in June 2024, Grab Vietnam also conducted a quick survey of Grab driver partners on their satisfaction with the training content in the Project "Improving professional skills for the technology driver community". Thereby, some positive results were recorded such as: 87.7% of Grab driver partners participating in the survey said that the training content was really useful and necessary; 75.2% of Grab driver partners participating in the survey said that the training content had a positive impact on their daily activities and life...

Assessing the implementation results, at the above conference, Ms. Dang Thuy Trang - Director of External Relations of Grab Vietnam said: During the 3-year implementation process, with the efforts and experience from all parties, the Project has carried out many meaningful and practical activities to raise awareness of the importance of vocational skills and provide necessary knowledge and skills in the process of operation and daily life for the technology driving community in general and especially Grab driver partners in particular.

Evaluating the effectiveness and impact of the Project through the satisfaction level of Grab driver partners shows that: 87.7% of driver partners participating in the survey said that the training content in the project is useful and necessary; 75.2% of driver partners participating in the survey said that the training content in the project has a positive impact on their operations and daily life. Of which, 64.5% of driver partners said that the level of positive impact is strong and significant; 94.8% of driver partners participating in the survey said that the training content in the project is easy to understand and easy to access; 86% of driver partners participating in the survey said that they feel satisfied with the training content in the project.

The above data is analyzed from the results of a survey of Grab driver partners conducted by Grab on the level of satisfaction of driver partners with the training content in the project "Improving professional skills for the technology driver community".
