Search for truck driver who intentionally hit and run over motorbike on Hanoi street.

On January 9, responding to VTC News reporters, a representative of Thanh Tri District Police (Hanoi) said that the unit is verifying the case of a truck crushing a motorbike on Nguyen Xien Street on December 16, 2023.

After checking the camera, the unit determined that the truck had the license plate number 21, but could not verify it specifically. The authorities continued to check the cameras of surrounding households to find the exact license plate number.

“After the collision, the truck driver fled, and the license plate was blurred, causing us difficulties,” said a representative of Thanh Tri District Police. Regarding the detention of a motorbike taxi driver for many days, a representative of Thanh Tri District Police said the case is under investigation. After verification, Thanh Tri District Police will call this person in for questioning.

“We also want to quickly resolve the issue for the people, return their motorbikes so they can work, not cause difficulties,” said a representative of the district police.

Previously, technology driver Hoang Manh Hieu (25 years old, residing in Me Linh district, Hanoi) submitted a petition to Thanh Tri district police about his motorbike being detained for more than 3 weeks after a traffic collision.

Mr. Hieu said that at around 10:50 a.m. on December 16, 2023, he drove a motorbike with license plate 21B2-124.40 carrying Ms. THN (22 years old) on Nguyen Xien Street, from Khuat Duy Tien towards Linh Dam.

When the car arrived at 262 Nguyen Xien Street, Mr. Hieu argued with a driver of a white, closed-box truck, about 1.25 tons, with an unknown license plate. When arriving at 280 Nguyen Xien Street, the truck driver suddenly turned to the left, knocking over the motorbike, causing Mr. Hieu and Ms. N. to fall onto the road. The truck driver then drove away.

The technology driver said that three weeks after the incident, his motorbike was still detained by authorities for investigation.

This person said that on the morning of January 9, he went to Thanh Tri District Police headquarters but was not received, so he had to go on social media to "call for help".

"Everything depends on the money I earn from driving a technology service every day, but for the past three weeks I have not been able to work because I have lost my means of earning a living," said Mr. Hieu.

According to Circular No. 63/2020 of the Ministry of Public Security, the period of temporary detention of exhibits, vehicles, licenses, and practice certificates related to road traffic accidents shall not exceed 7 days from the date of temporary detention.

In case there are many complicated details that need to be verified, the traffic police officer must report and propose to the competent leader in writing to make a decision, the maximum extension period is not more than 23 days from the date of expiration of the detention period.

If the traffic accident has many complicated details and requires more time to verify and collect evidence, the person with authority to handle the traffic accident must report in writing to his/her direct superior to request an extension of the temporary detention. The extension period shall not exceed 30 days.
