Tien Minh got 20/20 points in Information Technology, a rare case in the excellent student exam at secondary school level in Hanoi city.

A week ago, when entering his registration number into the city's excellent student exam score lookup portal, Vu Tien Minh, a 9C1 student at Archimedes Academy Secondary School, was surprised to see his score of 20, the perfect score for the exam. He also achieved similar results in the two previous district-level excellent student exams.

Recalling the exam on January 21, Minh said he had difficulty doing the last question, which scored 3/20 points, because he had little time left and the requirements were very long. Wanting to gain points little by little, he had to increase his speed, but he still did not expect to get everything right.

"I'm both happy and surprised, I feel this result is worth the effort I put in," Minh said.

Tien Minh, who loves geometry and has a good foundation in thinking, learned very quickly when he switched to studying IT in depth. The male student was curious about this subject because his older brother majored in IT at the High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences, Hanoi National University. According to Minh, creativity in problem solving is a factor that attracts him to IT.

A year ago, Minh started to try his hand at the Computer Science exam. The results were not very good, but because he loved the subject, he still spent more time on it.

To prepare for this year’s exam, in addition to working hard and correcting questions for the team, Minh also did many exercises on VNOJ and Codeforcs. This is a website that helps computer enthusiasts improve their skills through exercises and competitive programming competitions. During the review period, Minh also stayed up later and divided his schedule to be most effective.

"I do all the homework in class so I can study IT at night. I stay up quite late, usually until 12 or 1 a.m.," Minh shared.

Ms. Nhung, Tien Minh's mother, said she did not agree with her son staying up late because studying for exams for a long time could affect his health. A week before the exam, she asked for her son to take half a day off from school to sleep and regain his strength. However, Minh still slept at dawn because he was used to the sleep and was so excited about studying that he forgot all about being tired.

"Sometimes I feel sorry because my child is already studying in a specialized math class, and now he has to study for high school entrance exams and excellent student exams. But he is so dedicated and tries so hard that his family supports him wholeheartedly," said Ms. Nhung. During the review period, she also encouraged Minh and his siblings to teach and support each other.

According to Tien Minh, the encouragement from his family and teachers is the best spiritual gift that helped him achieve high results this time. At Archimedes School, Mr. Vo Quoc Ba Can is the homeroom teacher of class 9C1, and also leads the Math and IT teams. Before any round of competition, he is always there to shake hands and wish his students to do well on the exam. He also often takes the team out to eat, buys shirts, and encourages them during the review period, making Minh and his friends "high-spirited" when taking the exam.

Tien Minh shared that he rarely feels stressed during exams, but this time he was a bit pressured because he "accidentally" got perfect scores in the district level exams, and his homeroom teacher even bragged about it on Facebook.

"The teachers all wholeheartedly supported and encouraged me. When taking the exam, the winning spirit is very important," Minh shared.

"Minh has very good math thinking and computer skills. Sometimes he comes up with ideas that surprise both me and Mr. Phuoc (who teaches geometry), "said Mr. Can.

According to Mr. Can, because he understands the nervous and easily stressed psychology of Tien Minh and his students, he often shakes hands to make them more confident. He also reminds Minh and his friends to consider the excellent student exams as fun exchanges, not to be pressured, but just try your best, there is nothing to regret.

Minh said he will definitely major in IT when he enters grade 10, but is just wondering which school to attend. His family and teachers wholeheartedly support this direction, hoping that in the future, Tien Minh will study majors related to applied mathematics and IT such as Computer Science, AI, Robotics... to develop his abilities.
